Yes and No. Ask the home video aficionado if they've ever edited the dozens to hundreds of hours of video they have shot on their camcorder. The answer usually is "I don't have the time, inclination, patience, or money to do all of that editing."

Sure film costs a lot more, so you shoot a lot less! But you also shoot film intelligently, and as a result, you can put together wonderful archival pieces about your family because you don't have hundreds of hours of taped footage that you probably will never go through and edit into a manageable viewing time.

I'm not in anyway saying don't shoot video. But what a shame to not pick up a Super-8 camera and shoot some Super-8 film of your family every now and then.

I enjoy my work as a video editor. I edit demo reels, corporate, training, music video, photo montage, commercials, new product, and narrative. Although I have my own video editing studio there never seems to be time to edit my own projects! My time is usually spent editing my client's projects, and I enjoy this immensely. However, I plan in the near future to make my own Super-8 feature film production.
