Things NEW Ebayers should know, not just about buying from SOVELVETGOLDMINE, but about EBAY in general:- Reading the auction text is really important! Since EBAY has gotten so popular, lately it seems that people just are not reading the black and white (or the html, if you will.) Find out what forms of payment are accepted, how the items are shipped, and read all the boring fine print, because if you make a purchase of place a bid, you will be agreeing to the terms. Most sellers who have been at this a while put everything you need to know right in the auction site. It does NOT work in the seller's favor to misrepresent facts or leave out information, since this will only anger and frustrate the buyer in the end. Most of the sellers on EBAY are fine folks who have every intention of providing you with a nice item, shipped safe and fast, and MOST of us would rather answer 100 emails asking questions than risk the unhappiness or dissatisfaction of the buyer!
- When buying clothing, always check the measurements against your OWN! We put many photos and a lot of information into each auction-- WAY more than you will get on ANY retail website! The info is there to HELP you decide whether an item will fit you. Tag sizes, especially with OLDER or VINTAGE garments are pretty much irrelevant, since the sizing has changed industry-wide (1980's) and because items such as jeans will shrink or stretch depending upon how the particular garment was treated. ALWAYS ask for more measurements if you feel like you need them. Ask for MORE PICTURES if you need. Do whatever it takes to feel like you "know" what you are getting-- as best you can without actually being in the presence of the item itself.
- READ THE RULES of the auction or sale. Find out what the policies are regarding payment, shipment, returns, refunds, etc... and decide whether you want to accept them. DO NOT buy something and then harass the seller to get your way. When you bid or buy you are accepting the terms AS THEY ARE stated in the auction. (My Law School contracts professor would be SO proud of me for this revelation!) This behavior is not appropriate, nor is it nice. Be a smart buyer and just read everything and follow the seller's instructions!
- Refrain from sending rude email to other Ebay members wherever possible. Just as in Life, you will see things on Ebay which do not create a sense of happiness and delight within you. If what you see is ILLEGAL or NOT ALLOWED, then you ALERT THE AUTHORITIES. If what you see does NOT amount to a violation of LAW, nor of EBAY'S Community Standards, then mind your own beeswax (as we say down south). Ebay is a venue for selling and buying STUFF, not a socio-political or quasi-religious forum.
- HAVE FUN! Look for every childhood toy your mom tossed out, or refused to let you have. Buy every piece of electronic equipment, every luxury item, every nic-nac you have ever wanted! Or just browse. This is the best invention of this CENTURY! :)
- Feedback is the way ebay community members get to know about each other. We prefer that a buyer leave FB first-- this lets us know that you are happy with your purchase, and that the transaction has been a success. You should ALWAYS leave feedback, not just to let your seller feel a sense of resolution, but to let others know how the deal went from a bidder's perspective.
- If you have a problem with your purchase, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS email the seller BEFORE you leave NEGATIVE OR NEUTRAL feedback-- many sellers will do their utmost to resolve confusion or unhappiness, so ALWAYS email them before making judgmental statements in Feedback Forum.
- BEFORE LEAVING NEGATIVE OR NEUTRAL FEEDBACK, think about WHY you are leaving it! If it is because you failed to read the description and are disappointed, or because you did not buy insurance and the item is broken, then it is not appropriate to leave such comments.

Important stuff
PLEASE read the following bidding policies:- PAYMENT FOR AUCTION ITEMS IS DUE WITHIN 3 DAYS OF AUCTION CLOSE. BUY IT NOW AND STORE ITEMS PAY IMMEDIATELY.
- PAYPAL PAYMENTS must CONTAIN A CONFIRMED ADDRESS, or you will get a refund and a request to use Bidpay. No shipping to unconfirmed addresses and no exceptions.
If you are outside the USA and have an unconfirmed address, you will need to use Bidpay.com.
- WE REALLY DO RELIST YOUR ITEM if we do not hear from you by the 4th day after the close of the auction. At this time, your Ebay ID is added to our BIDFILTER, and you will not be able to bid on the item again, NOR on future auctions we offer.
WHY do we do this? It is not because we are "mean" or "evil" or any of those things! The explanation is very simple, and it goes like this: When you win an auction, the seller has already paid a listing fee, an image hosting fee, a gallery fee... and THEN must pay an additional final value fee! In our case, we also have shipper's fees and packing supply fees! PLUS, we have to pay consignors in a timely fashion. This adds up, and we cannot stay in business if we do not turn the merchandise around. 3 days is VERY reasonable, and Ebay has recently added the "3 day" heads up to winning bidder emails because it is SO very reasonable. Please do not expect your item to be available if you have failed to contact us within 4 days of your auction's close. There is FAIR WARNING in the auction on this issue, so please do not play dumb!
If it IS available and has not been relisted, we will happily complete the transaction.... but if not, then just be more careful next time!
- If we do not hear from you/receive payment in 7 days, we file Non-paying bidder forms.
- FINAL VALUE FEE CREDIT FORMS ARE FILED 10 DAYS SUBSEQUENT TO NPB. This reimburses the seller for the portion of the final price of the item-- we get to eat the other fees. Not cool.
- WE NO LONGER CAN ACCEPT YOUR PAYMENT VIA MONEY ORDER, SO PLEASE DO NOT ASK TO USE A MONEY ORDER.
- Bidders with zero feedback MUST contact us PRIOR to bidding. We reserve the right to cancel your bid.
- Bidders with excessive negative feedback or a history of non-payment, please contact us before bidding. We can and do cancel bids placed by members who have had history of non-payment.
If you make a mistake and accidentally bid, we send you an email which requires that you CONTACT US, MAKE PAYPAL PAYMENT WITHIN 24 HOURS OF AUCTION'S CLOSE, and just generally acknowledge the rules. It is nothing personal, but ZERO BIDDERS are not always "old pro's" at Ebay, and do not always read/understand the auction's terms. Our policy of trying to "get to know" our "0" bidders is as much for the bidder's protection as it is for ours.
- FEEDBACK: We will happily exchange feedback with our bidders. After you have received your item, please either email us if there has been a problem, OR leave feedback to let us know that you are satisfied. We will then leave feedback for you-- usually EXCELLENT!
- NEGATIVE FEEDBACK: We file with Square Trade and have INAPPROPRIATELY LEFT feedback removed. We will also file to have retaliatory feedback removed.
Threatening to leave negative or neutral feedback if we do not lower our shipping costs, refund your money for an uninsured damaged item and so on... these are means of feedback extortion and will not be tolerated. This behavior violates the user agreement.
- International bidders, please read the auction page for info related to placing bids. We do not ship to all countries and we do not ship certain items via lengthy means. Ask your questions before you bid please.
- BID RETRACTION/CANCELLATION: We will cancel your bid upon request if you do not have a reason to retract. Ebay Policies have changed on this, and there are not many ways for you to retract, so PLACE YOUR BIDS CAREFULLY. We will NOT cancel your bids if they are placed within 24 hours of the auction's close.
- ALL items are ALWAYS described to the best of our ability, but please note that we are NOT experts on all types of vintage merchandise and/or antiques, so if you have specific questions, the time to ask questions is BEFORE you bid.
- INSURANCE OR BUYER PROTECTION!! Once an item leaves our possession we are NOT responsible for it. Should LOSS or BREAKAGE transpire, we cannot be held liable for this, so INSURE INSURE INSURE!! If paying by Paypal, we suggest that you take advantage of our MONEY BACK GUARANTEE which is really the best value. If for any reason you are not happy, or your item does not show up, or arrives damaged, you get your money back. Simple.
- We ALWAYS ship USPS WITH FREE DELIVERY CONFIRMATION unless otherwise noted in the auction site, and there is ALWAYS a handling charge.Our prices for USA and Canada shipping/handling are ALWAYS in the auction site, but are subject to usps rate changes.
