I'm not too sure where it all started, but I blame Bob Sirot, John "Records" Landecker, Larry Lujack, and the rest of the WLS AM radio crew back in the 1970s for having me glued to my transistor radio falling in love with music.  Soon I was spending all my pocket money on 45s, eventually graduating on to LPs and before long I was "that" guy who just hung out at the record store so much they eventually just started paying me.

Wax Trax!, Second Hand Tunes, Dr. Wax and all the great haunts of Chicago gave me places to go every weekend to load up a carrier bag full of records... but as my illness got worse, I never played any of those... just the store copies!

Favorite bands came and went, but along the way I got to meet some of Rock's legends: Kiss, McCartney, Bono, Springsteen, all of whom I treated with the usual disdain of the hipster record shop moron.  My bands were the indie rockers and punk rockers who played Tuts, Double Door, or drank hard at Exit.   If we wanted to dance we got loud at Neo and Octagon, or rambled over to Lucky Number... when we drank it was at Circuits, and when we rocked... well... it we just plain silly.

Chicago in the 80s was a great rock town.  Untainted by the attention of Seattle or Athens... and left alone to be great... and of course, left to people like me to hang out behind the counters and work the doors and go broke doing what we loved.
