The Gatorbaby
|
Who? What? Is a Gatorbaby? He is my "always a 2 year old" Lesser Sulfur Crested Cockatoo. He rules the roost around here. My daughter, a wildlife rehabilitator, was called by our local animal shelter to coax the poor bird out of the tree he had been in for four days. Obviously its loving owner really missed him and was searching - HAHA!! Fruit Loops brought him down in a hurry.
Long story short-she brought him to me, we waited the 90 days required, and he became mine! Took a while for him to become at ease with me, but with dedication he has me right where he wants me to be - at his beck and call!! These birds are known as a velcro pet!!
I have 4 children, and soon to be 5 wonderful grandchildren, and a husband who tolerates my need to save the animal kingdom from the dummies called the human race.
I have 4 dogs, 3 are Yorkies - Tiger who is Daddy to Bella and Tiny. Then there is the forever Precious who is a gorgeous Lhasa Apso. Two Breaded Dragons, a rescued ferret(found him a home.) and a Siamese Fighting fish! Oh, yeah - in the yard I had a rooster, Studly and his woman, Henrietta. Unfortunately, they have not been around for over a week. God must have decided another animal or two needed a meal. Law of nature, though I miss my Studly so bad. We do have fox, bobcats and bears out here!
In the past-have rescued a piglet(Wilbur), 2 dwarf miniature horses, a quarterhorse (Thunder)who blessed us with a colt (Lighting) on an April Fools morning, a herd of pygmy goats and I rescued a gerbil. Found walking down a sidedwalk on base (Camp Lejeune) just before Christmas!! Doc said he was as old as the earth and probably would not make it. Ha I name him GG (Geriatic Gerbil) he lived with me for 4 months, had a stroke and finally put him down. 3 days later when I could not longer bear to see him in pain,
I love animals - how could you tell?? And of course my family usually come first. We animal rescuers and owners will give till it hurts!!
