The Hillbilly Hag makes totes, purses, pocketbooks, market bags, diaper bags, quilted pieces, wall hangings, altered art, and all sorts of original handcrafted treasures. The Hag lives at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and learned her craft from generations of mountain quilters and crafters. As a small child she learned to quilt by hiding under the quilting frame, watching the needles go up and down, listening to the women folk talk about gardening, canning, housekeeping and husbands. Sometimes the ladies forgot about the big ears hiding under the quilt frame and would have a lively discussion about moonshine, revenuers, and the pitfalls and perils of loose women. When The Hag was old enough, mothers, grandmothers and aunts taught her how to cut the quilt pieces from old clothing, lay them out in a pleasing arrangement, layer the top, batting and backing, attach it to the quilting frame and perform those beautiful stitches that had fascinated her as a child. All of those women are now at the Big Quilting Bee in the Sky but their teachings and teasings live on in the Hillbilly Hag. Sturdy, fun and funky------that's the motto of The Hillbilly Hag!
