| I created The Language Wiz to offer practical ways to learn a new language. After learning 6 languages, I've experienced many different ways to learn a new language. I learned French and Hebrew at home and by immersing myself in the cultures, Italian and German in school, and Spanish on my own with audio programs. You can go to the bookstore and hope to stumble upon a good program. You can spend a lot of money on college or university classes, or private tutoring.
The Language Wiz can help you choose the best match for you. Do you want to become fluent? Do you just want to be able to hold a conversation? Need to talk to your in-laws or just understand what they're saying behind your back? Are you an Actor preparing for a role? Not all language learning programs are created equal -- some are better for conversation, others are more comprehensive and will teach you to read and write, too. We help you make the right choice.
I want to help you understand that it can be easy and fun to learn languages. It brings people people together and fosters peaceful relations. Maybe that is too corny. Languages can be fun because each one has unique characteristics and expressions. So, everyone does not all need to speak 1 language. Maybe we should have one in common for smoothing business and political standards. At least, then, everyone should speak two. Why not take up language learning as a hobby? |

| Traditionally, the levels of language mastery are: (1) Casual/Conversational, (2) Proficient, (3) Fluent.
But you can be conversational, proficient or fluent on a verbal level alone! I have met instructors who read and write perfectly yet can not hold a smooth conversation. Their grammar is great, but there is more to languages than grammar.
Instead, let us break it down simpler -- by your goals:
1.
The verbal level. Here you learn to speak and to understand. No reading; no writing.
2.
The reading and writing level. Here you learn to read and write. No emphasis or pressure on speaking.
3.
The written + verbal level. Here you will immerse yourself and learn all the skills. It is challenging and fun.
Sounds good, right? But now, how to you choose the best programs from among the countless available? It is like finding a needle in a haystack! |
