Hi and Welcome!
My name is Laura and I've lived in California all my life. I've been married for 25 years and a stay-at-home mom for 14 years. We have three boys, ages: 17 years, 15 years, and 6 years.
As you can see, there is a lot of testosterone in the house...I'm outnumbered! So many of the shows we watch on TV are fishing, sports, Nascar, auto-motorcycle builds, home improvements, "Sport Science," "Man vs Wild," "Mythbusters," and "How it's Made," to name a few. (I've actually found these shows fun and informative, too!) But I do still get the chance to watch some of my favorite food network shows.
All my boys, and this includes the biggest one - my husband, love fishing, playing basketball, building mini choppers, go-karts, and anything else they can weld and hammer on in the garage! (I think they just like to make a lot of noise! lol)
I, myself, like to create, too. Although, I can't draw like my husband or sons, I found I could create by sewing. Over the past eight years I've taken a few quilting and crafting classes, and have learned from talking with other crafters. My mom also loves to craft and I have an aunt that quilts. So other than that, I'm pretty much self-taught, and have learned from many a "trial and error." lol
It all began with a small collection of fabric and crafting supplies that kept growing faster than I could use them up. With my family's encouragement, in 2005 I started a small home business. I love the art of quilting and the place quilts hold in American history, I also love decorating with pumpkins in the fall, hence my name..."The Quilted Pumpkin."
I sell at local craft shows, through word of mouth, and I'm working to sell more on ebay in hopes of opening an ebay store or website. Some items are my own design, and some are patterns I've purchased from some wonderful crafters I've met online nation wide. One day I would like to create a few of my own designs, but it takes time to design and put together a printed pattern; and it seems I'm always running out of time!
Through the year I am inspired to stitch and craft holiday, seasonal, and everyday items for people to give as gifts and to decorate their home. I like to work with quality quilt fabric and woolens, cutting and painting wood crafts. I embellish with rusty tin, grubby-stained hang tags with vintage images, homespuns, handstitches, or German glass glitter. I want my finished crafts to be a reflection of the downhome warmth of Country, the crude simplicity of Primitive, the timeless era of Vintage, or a make-believe world of Whimsy.
I take great care and pride in the quality of my work so each piece is crafted and sewn just by me. I do not rush through my work so I only make a handful of a design at a time. Each piece will have a handmade uniqueness of its own...no two are exactly alike...
I am delighted when someone takes home a little something I've made. I want them to feel that handcrafted piece was made especially for them. I hope to bring to their home a bit of Country, Primitive, Vintage, or Whimsical charm!
