Back to previous page  Fashion, Old and New How I begin...draping the material It simply began as a dream.  I was a young girl growing up in a large family.  I have three older brothers and a younger sister.  You wouldn't know this but I was a tomboy when I was young mostly because I was given my brothers' hand-me-downs.  Luckily at age 7 my mother taught me how to sew and then she enrolled me in Girl Scouts and later I joined 4-H.  Then at the age of 12, I entered my first sewing/designing competition which happened to be held at the county fair.  Thousands, of girls participated in different age groups.  Not only did we have to design and make our outfit, but we had to model it in front of the panel of judges.  Awards were given out at the end of the week-long competition.  At the awards ceremony, I saw girl after girl being called up on stage to receive her award (yes there were no boys who entered the competition at that time), while I remained at the bottom of the stairs off to the side of the stage.  The next thing I knew, older girls were being called.  I feared someone had forgotten my name and I was going home with nothing, or worse yet, I hadn't earned even a white ribbon.  But in my mind, I knew my garment had stellar workmanship and was fashion forward or so I thought at the time.  I could feel the panic in my stomach stirring and I was fighting to hold the tears back...and then I looked around and there were three other girls standing on the sidelines with me.  Staring down at me was the sweetest 17 year-old girl who saw the panic on my face and quickly told me not to cry.  She explained to me we were the grand champion winners for each of our divisions (age groups).  Hmmm...she did kind of resemble the comedian they had on stage a few minutes before the awards ceremony...but then I pondered it for a few moments and figured she had to be right after all she seemed honest but more importantly I could sense she had done this before.  It wasn't two minutes later when the announcer stated she would now hand out the grand champion winners for each division.  My knees grew weak and I don't remember hearing my name, but I know the older girls had to push me up on stage and scaredly I walked to the podium; all the while looking out in to the audience to find my family.  They weren't too hard to find; they were the ones jumping up and down.  That was my first win!  I had many others over the years.  But for me, that was my moment when I knew I wanted to design clothing.  I've not made the "big time" yet, but that's okay for me.  I get to do what I love and I get to create and design.  Until a few years ago, I accessorized with custom made jewelry which I sell from time to time here on e-bay when my stock gets too big and I no longer have use for it.  In all of those circumstances, the jewelry has never been worn.  A few years ago, I needed vintage accessories and turned to e-bay.  As with the custom jewelry, my stock became too much to maintain and that is when I became a seller on e-bay.  In addition to custom and vintage jewelry, I sell other items we have had in abudance over the years.  You will find clothing items, and soon I will list some of my designer items.  Along the way, I did manage to get married, have children and yes, even complete college!  Thank you for taking the time to read this, my from there to here story, and more importantly for stopping by.  May you and your family have success, health and happiness.  Listings To protect bidder privacy, when the price or highest bid on an item reaches or exceeds a certain level, User IDs will be displayed as anonymous names.
