My name is Shirley Aboudib.
I have been painting for 15 years and have recently begun painting full time. I have worked in many different medium but I prefer oil painting on gessoed masonite or canvas. I have a degree in Interior Design from Michigan State University and love to have beautiful surroundings.
I paint using a limited palette technique taught to me by my only painting instructor, Doug Prine, while living in Texas. Most of my paintings are done "alla prima" meaning they are done in one sitting, either from still lifes that I set up or from my own personal photographs.
I prefer to use a smaller format 6x6", 5x7", 8x10" or 9x12".
My grandmother, Jean Bauer, was a painter and I take much of my inspiration from her. These are some of the great masters that have influenced me over the years... I always admired Michaelanglo. When I went to Europe years ago it was my goal to see as much of his art as I could, including the Sistine Chapel. I also admire Norman Rockwell for his ability to capture mood and personality. I love the impressionistic art of John Singer Sargent and Joaquin Sorolla. But I am also very impressed with some of the lesser know modern day artists that are seen in galleries and on the internet and have inspired me to go on.
