PINKHAMR Gets TUZ in the NEWS ... NOVELTY Sells TUZ Merchandise!!!
Summer, 2002

The YAHOO Internet Life Magazine featured our own PINKHAMR and the TUZ in Tuz Timers By Michelle Holcenberg ... "Scenes from the eBay sniper society, where a single second is all that matters".

Here are some excerpts:

"Why do we do this?" says Dennis Rosen, a real estate broker from Southern California who has been a TUZ member since the beginning, more than three years ago. "It's about the skill of hitting it. It gives people something to work for. And it's about the community."

What started out as sharpshooting practice has become much more, according to Randy Pinkham, the group's unofficial founder. "It's turned into a world of its own," says the retired Air Force master sergeant and gun expert from Oklahoma.

... the latter has allowed Bill Cawlfield (tiptie) of Colorado to become the all-time top TUZer, with a record 16 posts in one second.

Novelty opens up the 1st A.S.S. Store

46 HITS ... AN ASTOUNDING FEAT! Marvin ties Tiptie for the DUZEN TUZ! April 3, 2001

Marvin shares some more of his secrets: "There is still quite a bit of experimenting left to find out how fast things can actually go. I started practicing with a metronome. Tonight, it was set at 192 beats per minute, and my objective was to strike each of the two enter keys twice with each hand per beat. It is *very* important to strike evenly and with a "stacatto" touch, i.e. strike the key and get off! When I first tried it, I had trouble doing six but starting slow and gradually speeding up made it a LOT easier to get to a higher speed. I might add one of my objectives is to help others on the DNF board build up their speed, hence my somewhat detailed comments."

Marvin shares his secrets: Posted by marvin@rain.org (320) on Mar-25-01 at 22:03:56 PST Auctions tuzzled - Okay! Here is the repeat post from last night. In an effort to raise the stakes, I did a couple of things tonight. I might add that my machine is a 233 MHZ Pentium w/ 64 MB RAM and I added the clock and sychronized time program mentioned in the Supersniper About Me page: http:// members.ebay.com/aboutme/ supersniper/. First, I shut down all programs except the bare essentials (control-alt-delete to bring up the task window) and only left Netscape, explorer, and zonealarm running. Second, I entered the time into the message window and TABBED down so "Save my Message" was selected when I would strike the enter key. But the biggest change was to strike BOTH enter keys on my keyboard so one hand didn't have to repeat quite as fast! I am using a fast cable modem connection and that probably makes it possible. I might add that during a bit of practice, I actually hit a *10*, so there is quite a bit of room for improvement. There you have it; good luck to everyone who wants to try it.

And before Marvin could celebrate his victory ... Posted by snyderstr (2807) on Jan-15-01 at 12:14:19 PST Auctions ... Thanks, gder. I couldn't have done it without your inspiration and advice. I've taken apart the Logitech Trackman FX Marble and blueprinted it, putting in a power regulator and zener shunt, shortened the cable to minimize the losses due to the speed of light, polished the marble with jeweler's rouge to remove microscopic surface scratches, replaced the nylon bearings with Teflon-coated silicon graphite. The mechanical switches have been replaced with Hall Effect transistors gating a double buffered opticoupler triggering a high-speed J-K flipflop. I've rewritten the mouse driver in native mode 32-bit Assembly to cut the response time. The plastic stock buttons have been replaced with skeletonized titanium for a faster lockup. A couple of other minor hacks, which are a little more technical."

Come 'n listen to my story 'bout a man named Pierre
A poor dot.commer, barely kept his family fed
And then one day, he was playin with his pez
And he thought what the heck, I can sell these on the web
World Wide Web that is, WWW, dot.com paradise

Well, the first thing you know, old Pierre's a billionaire
Kin folk said, Pierre, move away from there
Said, Californy ain't the place you oughta be
So he loaded up the plane and he moved to gay Paris
France, that is, swimmin' pools, but no movie stars

Well, now it's time to say goodbye to Pierre and all his kin

    History of The TUZ ...

The Tuz was born on February 22, 2000 when pinkhamr maniacally clicked his mouse trying to SNIPE his message on the DNF board at precisely 22:22:22 in front of hordes of horrified DNF members. It was contagious and addictive and on subsequent nights others lined up and fell captive to the relentless beat of The Tuz at precisely 22:22:22.

So where did TUZ come from??? We believe it to be djoakes who first called it TUUZ (22:22:22 = Twos = TUUZ) and then of course the rest of the DNF professors quickly taught us the correct spelling - TUZ. :)

Are you listed on the TUZ WUZ HERE Wall or the TUZ HALL OF FAME ... NO DNFer has ever hit a 7!!! The most ever in one night was 23 posted on April 21, 2000 UNTIL January 14, 2001 when 27 DNFers rang the bell at 22:22:22. We need T-Shirts or something? :)

REMEMBER WHEN ... gder hit 12 snipes on July 3, 2000 22:22:28 and dnf-barney called it "an unnatural act" ... now if only he can get his clock straightened out SNYDERSTR would be in for some Heavy Competition!

The TUZmanian Devil Wants to Know How You Remember It? ...

Dande, on 1/16/2001 remembers ... Basically Pinkhamr was always posting *times*, then he started posting at 22:22:22 as one of his *times*. Hart became his cheerleader and she eventually coaxed denro & I to join this *nut* time poster. Well one night denro and I finally got the courage to try it also. If my memory serves me correctly denro hit it either the first night or at least within a few nights. It took me a about a week of trying to get it if I remember correctly. Then others chimed in and the momentum built.

Now there was *previous* history about sniping the time on the boards all at once but it was never called the tuzz as far as I know. Red-deer is the person to ask about that previous stuff.

The official DNF tuzz as we know it today started the night denro & I got up the courage to challenge pinkhamr and post with him. He had been posting *times* for a long time by himself. LOL

Hart was the catalyst who made it happen. Hart, Gina and PPate were the cheerleaders who cheered us on. Soon stevik popped out of the rafters and was the first lady to try and hit the tuzz. Then Gina decided to be more than a cheerleader and the rest is history!!!

Red-Deer, on 1/16/2001 responds ... Dande ...... Yes, *time stamp sniping* was born on the New Board. Back when some of the primo snipers of all time hung out there. [before eBay NARU'd them for comments on *this* board]. Folks like C.R. Sam, Druther, Earl the Pearl, etc. I freaked them all out one night when I did a triple. Being the gentlemen sniper that I am, I told them how I did it. [and yes, Pink asked when he saw the posts]. Pink couldn't compete with us BIG boys, so he came over here where a *single* time stamp snipe amazed the curious onlookers. LOL The rest as they say, is history. :)

How I Fell Under the Tuzzlers Spell ...

I was innocently meandering amongst the discussion boards looking for something ... anything interesting when I accidentally stumbled on a chilling, secret, late night ritual being performed by what looked like normal ebayers ... buyers and sellers both.

22:22:22 they all chanted sending a chill up my spine. There was a couple who led the group ... a manly man with red rimmed eyes and pink robe, heavily laden with artillary. His willowy lady stood tall by his side, her sparkling sword ready to snipe at anyone who stood in her way. They were the First Couple.

Was this a religious order, an underground political activist group, a swapmeet? Most got singles, others a double and one had a triple. Was this a new sport? Would it join synchronized swimming as an up and coming Olympic game?

I went to bed that night completely overwhelmed with what I had witnessed. It was crazy, senseless, dangerous and daring, ... yet I yearned to be a part of it. I returned the next night and tried to find out more only to be told I needed tools of the trade or I would never be accepted. I went out into the vast Net, alone, searching.

Later I returned and as the Pacific Coast time ticked closer and closer to the dreaded hour ... DNFers were popping out of the wood work, coming out of the shadows to participate in the evening's bizarrerie ritual. I was ready though ... I had found the tools and I had to try ... Dimension 4 synchronized my computer and my new TCLOCK ticked away drawing me closer and closer to the time ... I had to mentally calculate the difference between east coast and west coast times while keeping my eye on the ticking seconds ... Sweat glistened on my brow yet I didn't dare even refresh my screen to see what the others were saying ... I had to stay FOCUSED ...
22:22:19 ... my fingers curled around the mouse ...
22:22:20 ... my index finger was stiff with anticipation ...
22:22:21 Oh God, what if my Sign expires ... I held my breath and C-L-I-C-K ... the sound of it reverberating in my ear and after a few seconds I realized my eyes were still shut tight. I opened them slowly, unclenched my fingers from around the mouse, did a quick right click refresh and LO AND BEHOLD 22:22:22 ... I felt light headed, pixellated, enraptured ... I was initiated into the ranks of The TUZ.
