Arist Statement
I was born and raised in Poland but moved to New Mexico three years ago. This change was probably the main reason why I got back to my dream of becoming an artist after 10 years of neglecting it. Self-taught in drawing, I studied painting with Leah Lopez in Los Alamos, NM and Leonid Gervitz and Gregg Kreutz in Taos, NM. I constantly strive to improve my art with each passing day.
Old masters, everyday life and nature are my teachers. The harmony, beauty and craftsmanship are my goals. I work in oil paints and watercolor, combining both indirect and direct technique. I use indirect painting, which means applying thin veil of transparent colors over already dried layers when I want to obtain rich colors or precise shapes. But when a vivid, spontaneous brushstroke is needed, I use direct technique.
My works are realistic but not photo realistic for I think an artist’s interpretation of the subject is important. Also important to me is being able to communicate with the viewer. When someone is looking at my work and does not feel anything I consider this work to be a failure. Many of my paintings and drawings are symbolic or have a story behind them. Yet some of my works are studies of simple beauty, arranged in studio or found in nature.
