Now I can be known as Nana. My son and his wonderful wife delivered twin girls in January 2007. My darlings are over 20 months old already-starting to talk some, if "gah" is a word. They are very affectionate and haven't picked up any bad habits yet. I'm with them 2 days a week and love every minute. We are learning colors and how to use chalk on the driveway. Both of them called me Nana now, one will try to say almost anything you say to her.
I've always loved shopping in thrift shops. I still have a sweater I bought at Goodwill in 1969, although it doesn't fit me; I just love the way it was constructed. I'm still on the lookout for velvet and cashmere, but I've decided to concentrate on linen clothing. I'll still offer whatever I find that seems like a value, though. Since these clothes come from thrift stores, I recommend washing or cleaning them before wearing. If I do wash them, it's mentioned in the desciption.
Wash your cashmere! Gently soak in cold water and Woolite, rinse 4-6 times in cold water, shape to dry. Never use fabric softener! I recently washed a plain crew neck cashmere in the washer and it came out fine!
I try to disclose any defects I find, I want you to know just what you're getting. That's part of the reason I take my pictures outside in the sun when possible. It's amazing what will show up in the sunshine, I've skipped many items so that I can get that little stain out, etc. While taking pictures of my newest finds, I realized that 1000's of people have seen my clothesline and side fence. Hah!
Where did the name Velma Velour come from? A friend dubbed me thus about 15 years ago when I happened to be wearing a lovely purple velour bodysuit. Thanks R.E.
My husband says it sounds like a cross between Velveeta and Elvira, otherwise a "Cheesy Witch". Speaking of the guy, who is the best omelet maker I've ever met, besides being easy-going, smart, funny, hardworking AND cute; he's starting to clear out bits of interesting stuff he's accumulated for years: car stuff, radio stuff, car radio stuff, etc. I get to sell it for him and keep the money! I told you he was the best!
