I have always had a love for different kindof jewelry - the kind that could strike up a conversation with a stranger or preoccupy a pediatric or elderly patient. The personal attention I received from wearing wacky earrings was always welcomed and initiated several friendships. I especially enjoyed the candid response of a child when they saw something like popcorn, bugs or aliens hanging from my ears.
Never wanting to lose expensive jewelry, I would choose wacky pieces from yard sales or make a pair from abandoned toys or from bottle caps each made to coordinate an outfit. The first pair was made after a teasing from my then 9 year-old daughter, Amelia, about making earrings out of the beer caps she found on the beach.
It became expected of me to wear attention-grabbing, unique earrings or some kind of beer cap jewelry so my imagination started going wild! The school-age kids admired my "homies" especially if one looked like a relative, or my isseswhich I could personalize for each occasion. Beer caps were fun to sport at a club or event so when several people wanted to wear them (even the men), I began making pair after pair in several different varieties.
Soon it became n obsessionby many of my friends and family to save caps, bottles and trinkets to see what I could come up with. So from there, my collection began to grow. With the help of everyone, I began to make this wacky jewelry available for others to join in the fun!
