"Through these fields of destruction
Baptism of fire
I witnessed your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though it did hurt me
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms"

UNKNOWN SOLDIER

(the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month)

The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation. They have one thing in common besides motorcycles. They have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join them by clicking here. (read about them in THE NEWS)

Bush signed the "Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act," passed by Congress largely in response to the activities of a Kansas church group that has staged protests at military funerals around the country, claiming the deaths symbolized God's anger at U.S. tolerance of homosexuals.

The new law bars protests within 300 feet of the entrance of a national cemetery and within 150 feet of a road into the cemetery. This restriction applies an hour before until an hour after a funeral. Those violating the act would face up to a $100,000 fine and up to a year in prison.

President George W. Bush signs H.R. 5037, the Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act in the Oval Office Monday, May 29, 2006. President Bush wanted each and every Patriot Guard Rider to know that he was proud that they have stepped up to right a wrong and honor our fallen heroes. The PGR was at the signing today as invited guest of the President. Jeff, Waldo, Kurt and a few others had breakfast with the President before the signing.

Why Do We Ride?

Why do we do this, you ask?
Why bother to stand out in wind and rain for someone unknown?
Why do we ride through torrents chilled to the bone?
The answer is simple: “Because, Never Again!”

Never again will they return home in shame,
Never again will wearing their uniform cause them pain.
Never again will we forget why they serve.
No, Never Again.

But still I hear you say “Why does it matter to you?”
“They aren’t your friends,
your brothers, your sisters,
your father, your mother.”
War is a sad time for many; it is sad but true.
So, why do you gather in the gap between their families and their foes?
The answer is simple: “Because, Never Again!”

Never again will grieving parents, families and friends alone bear mourning’s toil.
Never again will hard-won freedom of speech be used to debase and destroy.
Never again will their sacrifice be dishonored upon their home soil.
No, Never Again.

Why do we gather, why do we ride?
Why travel this country far and wide?
We remember our grandfathers, fathers, brothers and others yet to come.
We stand proud through tears reflecting their courage and pride.
Because, Never Again.

That’s why we ride.

Here is the list of all of our Service Men still missing! Think of them always. Hold their names close to your heart. The government that called them to duty forsaked them, but let us, as a Nation of People, never do so.

"Thank You" To all those that served and are still serving.

..

This table is our way of symbolizing the fact that members of our profession of arms are missing from our midst. They are commonly called P.O.W./M.I.A., we call them "Brothers". They are unable to be with us, and so we remember them because of their incarceration.
This TABLE set for one is small - symbolizing the frailty of one prisoner alone against his oppressors. The TABLECLOTH is white - symbolizing the purity of their intentions to respond to their country's call to arms.
REMEMBER!
The single ROSE displayed in a vase reminds us of the families and loved ones of our comrades-in-arms who keep the faith awaiting their return.
REMEMBER!
The RED RIBBON tied so prominently on the vase is reminiscent of the red ribbon worn on the lapel and breasts of thousands who bear witness to their unyielding determination to demand a proper accounting of our missing.
REMEMBER!
A SLICE OF LEMON is on the bread plate to remind us of their bitter fate.
REMEMBER!
There is SALT upon the bread plate - symbolic of the families' tears as they wait.
REMEMBER!
The GLASS is inverted - they can not toast with us this night.
REMEMBER!
The CHAIR - the chair is empty - they are not here.
REMEMBER!
REMEMBER - all of you who served with them and called them comrades, who depended upon their might and aid, and relied upon them, for surely, they have not forsaken you.
(by Larry H. Tassone, USAF (Ret) Courtesy of the U.S. Air Force Academy)

We must never forget the sacrifices that the men and women of our armed forces have made for our country. Those of us who returned safely realize how fortunate we are. For that reason, if no other, we will continue to honor the personal sacrifice of the soldier who was never found. We will continue to display this table until all missing comrades are accounted for.

"If you are able, save for them a place inside of you and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go.

Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may or may not have always. Take what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own.

And in that time when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind."

A GREAT VIDEO by Some Norwegian Soldiers in Kosovo (To the tune of Kokomo)

I Am A Soldier

I am a soldier.
My blood permeates the soil of many countries.

I have gasped my last breath on many a desolate
stretch of beach. For you...all of you, the children
who play in the parks, the mothers who watch over them,
the fathers who struggle to sustain them.

There are those here who have belittled and reviled me,
who have made a mockery of me and what I stand for.
You, also, have I suffered and died for.
I withstood heat, insects and disease
So the right to dissent would be yours.

I endured the pain and terror of battle and the maiming
of my body to ensure that you might worship as
you please. I died in agony in order that you,
no matter who or what you are,
Have the freedom to choose your own destinies.

AND I WOULD DO IT AGAIN
because I believe in the ideals that made this country
what it is today... FREE.
I love her with a deep and abiding love
that transcends mere physical pain.

I AM A SOLDIER.
Pray that I will always be there,
for if I disappear from this country, so will you.

Wars are poor chisels for carving out peaceful tomorrows. -- Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

THE MARINE

We all came together,
Both young and old
To fight for our freedom,
To stand and be bold.

In the midst of all evil,
We stand our ground,
And we protect our country
From all terror around.

Peace and not war,
Is what some people say.
But I'll give my life,
So you can live the American way.

I give you the right
To talk of your peace.
To stand in your groups,
and protest in our streets.

But still I fight on,
I don't b*tch, I don't whine.
I'm just one of the people
Who is doing your time.

I'm harder than nails,
Stronger than any machine.
I'm the immortal soldier,
I'm a U.S. MARINE!

So stand in my shoes,
And leave from your home.
Fight for the people who hate you,
With the protests they've shown.

Fight for the stranger,
Fight for the young.
So they all may have,
The greatest freedom you've won.

Fight for the sick,
Fight for the poor
Fight for the cripple,
Who lives next door.

But when your time comes,
Do what I've done.
For if you stand up for freedom,
You'll stand when the fight's done.

USS SAIPAN, PERSIAN GULF

During a 1972 trip to North Vietnam, Jane Fonda propagandized on behalf of the North Vietnamese government, declared that American POWs were being treated humanely and condemned U.S. soldiers as "war criminals" and later denounced them as liars for claiming they had been tortured.
