Three years ago I started a project to finish the basement in my home.  I wanted to make it a fun place to relax with some game tables and big screen entertainment.  I wanted to try to use some kind of aviation theme to make the project interesting and unique.  I had the idea of including a home theater in the basement, so I started shopping around to buy everything I needed.  I was stunned to learn how expensive the home theater stuff was, especially the seats!!    I also learned from shopping around how similar (and boring) all the home theater seats were.  The last thing I wanted was to have my home theater look like everybody else's, so I started searching for places where I hoped to buy surplus airline seats to use.  

My search took two years and probably several thousand phone calls.  None of the big aircraft junkyards and cabin contractors wanted to waste their time selling just a handful of seats.  Eventually I found a couple of willing suppliers and I bought some seats.  I soon began to restore and detail them.  I learned how to redye leather, re-rig control cables, rebuild and adjust spring actuators and a host of other necessary skills.  I also learned which cleaning products and techniques brought the seats back to a "brand new" appearance.  When I finished, the seats looked fabulous.  My neighbors, family and friends all fell in love with the comfort and cool theme of these seats, so I decided to buy some more and sell them online to the public.

Here at Airlinerseats, our inventory comes from many differnt sources.  Some of our seat styles have come from retired airliners such as DC-10's, B-727's, L-1011's and B-747's.  As many of these airliners were converted to freighters, their passenger seats became surplus.  Airlines are constantly redecorating their interiors, so some seat styles have become available as airlines have redesigned their passenger cabins by changing color schemes or corporate branding.  Still other seat models became available as airlines and leasing companies standardize the equipment in their passenger cabins as planes change hands in today's spot market.
