Hello, this is Gary Dutko from
historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. I welcome you to my About Me page - click
on the image above to check out my website that premiered on May 2, 2006!
It's still under construction, and was developed in order to share my passion
for the art of conversion figures and how they can enhance a diorama as well
as offer some unique poses for your collection. I work strictly in 1/32 scale
(54mm) soft plastic with a primary interest in Conte soft plastic (Canadian
plastic) figures.
All conversion figures are meticulously handcrafted from standard poses.
Please view the various pages and pictures of this website to learn more about
this fascinating hobby. I welcome your questions and comments.
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your visit!
About Me:
For over 20 years I have been
collecting plastic toy soldiers by various makers. Like many, I could not wait
until new figures were released by toy companies. I just had to have them to add
to my collection.
It all started back in the late 1950 and early 1960 during the toy soldier boom.
Mom and Dad always got us a new Marx play set at Christmas dealing with some of
my favorites like Davy Crockett, Zorro, Captain Gallant and the list goes on.
However, as time went on my interest changed from toys to girls and cars. It was
not until the mid 1980, with a wife and 2 children, that I reintroduced myself
to this wonderful hobby.
Along with the old Marx play sets, I also enjoyed collecting the current
production figures. However, toy makers could never make new poses as fast as I
wanted them, which led me to converting existing plastic figures.
My son Tim is the little guy who back in the late 1980 inspired me to start
collecting again which has led to this fascinating conversion hobby. Now 21
years old, he has a unique talent for conversion designs as well as being my
resident historian. He helps he old manwhen he comes home for college break.
This endeavor remains a hobby for me, which means there is no mass production by
plastic injection machines. Each conversion figure is meticulously created by
hand from a standard stock figure that I buy from other dealers. It is a labor
intensive operation and therefore requires much time to complete an order.
This website was created in order to share my creativity with other collectors
by posting a few pictures of some of the hundreds of various poses I have made
as well as pictures from my personal collection and dioramas. If you have any
questions about my conversion figures please feel free to email me using the
contact page.
For close to 30 years our family has lived in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Our home is located adjacent to the Gettysburg Battlefield near Little Round Top. Designing and making custom conversion figures is my full time job at the present time. I work out of my home and do not have a retail store. If you have an interest in my conversion figures they are available through my ebay auctions or custom mail orders.
