Edessa Coins specializes in auctions of Ancient Uncleaned Coins. We regularly offer the following types of coins: Roman, Byzantine, and Holy Land. We occasionally offer Greek and Medieval coins. From time to time we also offer books about coins and even some books about Theology.
Under our Feedback Section is the link to Reviews and Guides. Edessa Coins has posted some guides on coin cleaning and other items of coin interest. Please feel free to take a peek.
Who We Are: Edessa Coins is made up of the three of us. First, there is a Blue-Head Pionus Parrot who is in charge of watching for the Sun to rise and then notifying the household that the work day has begun - if we want it to or not! Second, there is my new kitten, who fulfils his responsibilities by trying to knock all of the ancient coins on the floor. He insists that they will photograph better that way - even if they go under the furnace!
I myself am a former U.S. Field Artillery Officer, now a Disabled Vet and Part-Time Theology Professor. I used to be a full-time professor, but certain realities effected my work. I fall down a lot and have hands that no longer write very well. I recently had to give-up studying classical guitar and art work becaus of my hands and spinal problems. I am really frustrated by that.
My greatest problem is having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from my military service. I am currently working on a book project that attempts to manage PTSD from a Christian perspective. If I could choose between getting rid of PTSD or my physical disabilities, I'd choose to be rid of the PTSD. If you have or know someone with PTSD, there are ways to help cope with it. Don't despair.
Having lost my full-time income (but not my bills), I took the plunge into ancient coins to try and pay those bills. The Edessa Coins business slowly grows and I hope to one day be able to do it nearly fiull-time. The ancient coins are a nice overlap of my academic studies in Scripture and the Early Church. I also get to meet great people through e-Bay and the ancient coin collecting world. If I am able to one day make a living with Edessa Coins I hope to begin supporting more veterans healthcare organizations, wildlife preservation groups, and coin education in schools for the next generation of collectors.
I figure that if I market coins in a way that I would like them marketed to me or my family, then I can sell coins with a clear conscience.
I am often asked why I sign my letters with the words "Semper Pax." Semper Pax is Latin for "Always Peace." Semper = Always and Pax=Peace. My hope and prayer is that the can one day we can all see Semper Pax.

P.S. Edessa is a City in the Ancient World. The Romans minted coins there and the city also changed hands between the Romans and the Persians. It is also significant in the study of Early Christianity. It is most likely where the Acts of Thomas were put down on paper, and some scholars believe it may have been the origination point of the Gospel of Thomas. Edessa was the home of Ephrem the Syrian, an important Christian Theologian of the Fourth Century. It is said that he saw the body of the dead Julian II after he was killed fighting the Persians. Edessa also played heavily in my dissertation research and I am always keen to learn more about it.
