The artist that created these figurines was Carl Martin-Hansen. This series is considered by many to be one of his finest works.

The series features children of the territories of Denmark under which King Christian the X ruled. These territories included Denmark, The Faroe Islands, Greenland, Slesvig and Iceland which was in union with Denmark at the time.

The 10 figurines were originally given as a present from the women of Denmark to King Christian the X and to Queen Alexandrine on their silver wedding anniversary in 1923.

This set was purchased new in 1972. It is in pristine condition. The makers mark indicates it was manufactured between 1969 and 1972. All original boxes are included. The detail of the hand painting and the hand assembled flowers that each figurine holds is quite amazing.

The description included with each of the photos listed above, also includes links to additional photos of each figurine.

The costumes are true copies of Danish regional costumes which were worn in each Danish province at the time that the figurines were created in 1923. These are being sold as a single lot of 10 figurines. They are not being offered for sale individually.

In 1978 this set was appraised and given an insurance replacement value of $9562.50 US.

The winning bidder pays shipping and insurance. Documentation of provenance will be included with the purchase. If you would like additional photos or have more questions, please contact me. To view the auction CLICK HERE
