Welcome to Maxsamedia! We've got lots of great Music and Movies here, so come on down and have a look.
COMING SOON: PIns, Patches, Keychains, and Other Great Finds!
Hey, welcome to my About Me page. Melissa here, owner, operator, Captain and el queso grande of Maxsamedia. So named for Maxwell Samuel, the future Ruler of Earth, or so he thinks. That's him over there. Don't worry, he's only four now, we got time.
Why do I do this? Why did I open a store?
Surely not for the money ... yet. (and don't call me Shirley). Mostly to keep myself busy, to have something to do every day. I left a great job as a Library Manager at a small but very busy public library branch to produce and take care of the Maxzilla, but as he got older, I needed something else to keep myself occupied. Plus I needed to prevent my brain from any further deterioration into a tapioca-like stage. Ordering, researching, cataloging, listing, answering email inquiries, checking items out, seems like I'm back at the library. That is, until I go back for real. Can't let my accreditation run out, and no way am I going back to Grad School.
Why Do I Sell Music?
What I like about music is that it is so universal. Anyone can listen to any kind of music, in any language, and still enjoy it. It's not the same with books or even movies. Books in other languages have to be translated, if they even are, and the story can lose something intrinisic in the translation. Movies can be subtitled, but again, you can lose many nuances of the plot. I still love Asian horror movies, though!
Music, however, can be experienced in it's original language. I listen to music in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Greek, Turkish, whatever, and I enjoy it very much. It's the rhythm, the instruments, not just the words. I usually have no idea what they're saying, and it doesn't detract from the music at all.
What I Look For
I purposely try to find the unknown and unusual. The way I figure, anyone can sell new releases, and just about everyone is. The only way to make that work is to be a mega ultra power seller, and have the bulk sales. Well, I ain't and I don't. I like to have interesting and hard to find items. Plus I like the research I have to do to find out just what I have. I always have boxes of inventory down in the store, awaiting triage; who knows what gems will be uncovered!
Since many of my items are odd or unusual (some I can't find anywhere on the web), they are not in the Half catalog or the Amazon catalog. Thus the Ebay store was opened, and is steadily filling up with goodies. I'm currently in touch with new suppliers, so lots of new items are on the way.
What Kinds of Music Can Be Found Here?
Since most of my inventory is music, I'll describe it here. I tend to look for unusual music, shying away from the top 40 stuff. I do have some popular music, but I prefer things I've never heard of. I like to expand my musical horizons. So what do I carry?
- Classic Blues and Jazz (Piano, Trumpet, Sax, Vocal, etc.)
- World Music - JPop, KPop, CPop, Japan, China, Korea
- World Music - France, Germany, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Basque
- World Music - UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada
- World Music - Africa, India, South America
- Religious Music - Gospel, Contemporary Christian, Cantors, Hymns, Klezmer, Tibetan, Gregorian Chant
- Latin Pop, Latin Jazz, Latin Gospel
- Reggae, Ska, Calypso
- Christmas Music, Halloween Music
- CD Singles, Maxi Singles, Samplers

What Else?
Vintage animation is the bomb! I love seeing the evolution from simple cel drawings to the weird CGI of today. Also European and Asian animation, the older the better. Any animation I find will get a good complete listing, including year made, director/creator and short description. Great for you historians, collectors, and enthusiasts.
I love horror movies, classic 50s monster and alien movies, cheesy B-grade 70s and 80s flicks, recent Asian/Japanese Horror, zombie movies, old Peter Jackson films. I'm always on the lookout for these types of movies. I'm in the process of acquiring more, so check back to see what's available.
I've been expanding the music-based inventory to include pins, patches, stickers and other music memorabilia. I am always finding new inventory, so check back.
I'm also interested in vintage collectibles, especially from the 1970s. I just love the extreme of this era, the clothes, the music, the furnishings, the toys, the everyday items, the colors! When else was burnt orange so popular!
My Store Policies
My store may be small potatoes, but I still try to run it properly. Quality merchandise. Wide variety. Great Prices. Quick shipping. Excellent customer service. Maybe I will be a Big Cheese soon, but I'll keep my small store practices, thank you. Plus my husband wants this to work out so he doesn't have to go to work anymore. Figures ...
So that's my story, the abridged version. And my mission (should I choose to accept it), is to find interesting movies, music, books and lots more, and offer them to you, the good people of this planet.
Thanks for reading. Now go buy something ;-)
