Hi, and thanks for taking an interest in my little page here. My name is Scott, and I have been selling on ebay as "trader.mac" since January 2004. I import handicrafts from Bali, and sell them from my workshop in Atlanta, GA. It's basically just me running the business, with a little help from my brother and a lot of support from my wife. I have been importing from Bali for 6 years: first as a buyer for a company, and now on my own. I have been making business connections in Bali for several years, which helps me find the "good stuff:" high quality artworks made from good materials, at a reasonable price. Customer satisfaction is very important to me, so I try my best to provide accurate photographs and descriptions, and I take great care in packing and shipping. Since starting, I have made over a thousand successful sales on ebay, with no negative feedback.
I travel to Bali myself to personally choose the items that I sell, and I try to get the best value and quality that I can find. (duh.) Most of the time I go directly to the artists' villages to buy my pieces. That way, I can find better stuff at lower (but still fair) prices, eliminating the markups charged by middlemen at the shops in town. Plus, it helps support the local artists economy by putting more money in the hands of the people who actually create the art. Occassionally, I will commission an artist to do some custom work as well. There are several artists and families that I have worked with closely over the years, with whom I have built mutually beneficial relationships.

Bali is a stunningly beautiful tropical island in the South Pacific, steeped in spirituality and ancient culture. Bali is predominantly Hindu, even though it is a part of Indonesia, a mostly Muslim nation. Spirituality in Bali is unlike anywhere else in the world. They have melted together their ancient tribal beliefs with those of Buddhism and Hinduism to create their own unique set of spiritual beliefs and practices. Every aspect of daily life is imbued with spirit: prayers and offerings are given several times during the day, music rings from the temples, incense burns constantly, and there are rituals performed for every thing that you can think of.
Somehow it seems like everybody in Bali is an artist of one kind or another: if not a sculptor, then a musician, a dancer, or a painter. But there is no denying that the Balinese are some of the finest woodcarvers that the world has ever seen. And that is why I specialize in Bali woodcarvings. Well... that, plus I get to travel to Bali as part of my job... which is a very nice perk!
