Trains have always been a part of my life. As a child growing up in the late 50's and early 60's, I can never remember not having some type of model railroad. My two older brothers had Lionel train sets that we took over our living room with several times a year. I had a push train that ran on plastic track, it would cover our whole back patio if I used all the pieces.
Most summer vacations took us to Grandma's house, East Texas to Chicago, by train. We usually boarded in Palestine, but once picked up a flag stop in Troup. We had to transfer trains in St. Louis to take us the rest of the way into Union Station. From the rural towns, miles of country, crossing the Mississippi, acres upon acres of corn fields, chemical plants, people's back yards and going over the roofs of buildings, all in a days time. Quite impressive to this young country boy! Been hooked ever since.
I started in HO scale in my early teens, building a 4' X 6' layout that would roll under my bed. It was the first of the 4 layouts I have worked on, never finished mind you, before the one I now have. It's a shelf layout that has been under construction in my small shop since 1984. I did take about 10 years off just because of some trivial stuff like working two jobs, a wife & two kids and such, but I have been making a little progress since I semi-retired.
I like to do weathering. Over the years, I guess I have developed my own style as I don't see many folks doing their cars quite the same way as mine. There are several eBayers here that put out some very good looking cars & I would be honored if you consider bidding on one of mine.
