Back to previous page  140 Years of textiles and clothing - Victorian to the present Antique Chinese skirt I do wish I could have been around (say, in France) in the 1860's so I could have been an eyewitness (or maybe a designer!) through the very innovative exciting years of the 1860's through the 1930's. As it is I can only study and delight in these lovely pieces, add to my Edwardian hat collection, and strew lace about the house. My customers love the linen and other natural textile garments I offer up as newer clothing. Tired of the mass-produced, poorly constructed and designed clothing which contribute to our overflowing landfills? Why wear what the crowd wears, when you can have quality clothing that never goes out of style? I have always prefered to buy from boutiques, and by boutiques I mean smaller companies, often women-owned and operated, which feature unique designs and natural fabrics which breath when I do! Antique show space The sumptiousness of the fabrics and the extremes of design are what have always drawn me to Victorian and Edwardian clothing. I really enjoy 'the hunt', and am always on the lookout for some nearly forgotten piece of high fashion unearthed in some attic or the back of a disused closet. It is my delight to carefully clean a piece so that the fabric's original intent comes back to life. I continue to learn (and teach!) about antique clothing and some of the customs which created them. I love doing antique shows because it's so fun to see other's reactions to these antique beauties all collected together in one place. The people who buy and wear my clothes are any age from four-year-olds looking for that certain lacy white pinafore to ninety-five year old fashion mavens who find the perfect cloche to crown their silver locks. I love matching an antique piece to it's new owner as much as I enjoy selling a gorgeous Flax or Bryn Walker linen shirt to a steady customer. And I'm always looking for more fun items!
