We have been collectors of rare books and ephemera for over 30 years. Currently our personal collection of 19th century and modern, mystery, cinema, military, vintage Disney and children's books now numbers well over 4,000 volumes. We also collect rare American cinema posters and autographs with over 2,000 autographed books, posters and photos in our collection. As you can see space is a problem so many of the items we offer for sale have been carefully selected by us and are being sold because we have run-out of room to give them a good home. From time-to-time we will offer signed first editons along with rare or unusual editions as we upgrade our personal collection. All autographs we sell are guranteed to be authentic. Many of the autographed items were personally collected by me, some during my tenure as a movie theatre manager. In our travels we are always looking for the uncommon edition that we would love to collect always paying special attention to the collectable conditon of the item and to the authenticity of the autograph. We deeply enjoy the art of collecting and feel we are the care-taker of the item until such time as we then pass it along to others, like you, so you may enjoy it also. Since we are collectors we fully understand the importance of accurate descriptions of items we offer - if we are unsure of something we will tell you in the item description. We are always in the process of learning about the arcane art of "First Edition" status. We aim to provide excellent service with superb packing and "no hassle," refunds if so desired. We have enjoyed meeting many individuals from all over the world since we started selling on eBay in 1997 and look forward to many more years with eBay as we continue to expand our services. Our aim is to follow the standards of grading of all books as follows: |
|
Very FineThe highest grade given to any copy, very fine is a term that describes a crisp fresh copy and it admits no flaws. Any copy with even a minor blemish will not be graded very fine. Please note that some eBay sellers use the terms intor s newin place of ery fine. While we feel that ery fineis more precise.
FineA copy that is without visible flaws, but one that may lack the pristine crispness of a very fine copy. Many antiquarian dealers quite properly never give a book a grade higher than fine. A book that is graded inehas had excellent and loving care. Any minor blemish in the book or the dust wrapper will be noted in the description. Sometimes we will use the term "a shade off fine" for those copies better than "very good," but not quite "fine."
Very GoodThe most common grade given to a collectable copy, very good means exactly what it says. A very good copy is no longer fresh; it has been handled and shows some signs of wear, but it is still sound and appealing. Flaws such as ownership signatures, bookplates and remainder marks will be noted in the description, along with rubbing, chips and tears, and price-clipping in dust wrappers, where applicable.
Good"Good" is the lowest grade given to a collectable copy. The book has been used and abused, but it is whole. There may be one major flaw, like dampstaining or a cracked hinge, that keeps it from a higher grade, or there may be an accumulation of minor problems. A dust wrapper may have some design elements lost, but it must not be fragmentary. A term we will use for a copy hovering on the brink of uncollectability is airfor a weak ood.On very rare occasions we will offer copies in this grading or as "a reader's copy" but only if the book is exceptionally rare and any copy is better than none.A brief word about Book Club Editions - we tend to avoid them as very undesirable for collecting, others may disagree. We rarely offer BOMC edidions unless there is some rarety about the jacket and the book. Please rest assured we will always clearly note if the copy we are selling is a Book Club edition. We will offer occasional reprints such as G & D or A. L. Burt as they often reprinted the dust jackets of the rare first editions or used the original printing plates of the first printings. We are always upgrading or finding that exotic special item in our travels, so feel fee to email us your "wish lists." From Newberg, Oregon and our 8 acre farm we send you our very best. Thanks for visiting.
