Talk to me before you buy Chanel on Ebay!

31_rue_cambon  recommends * chanel*dreams* and kamaoles, who is a fabulous power seller with tons of designer items, and frenchmaison   as authentic CHANEL resellers , always authentic and fabulous  NO FAKES from these sellers  buy with confidence  If   I am always happy to help authenticate for buyers, also, caroldiva.com   contact  www.caroldiva.com,  she has a web page and authentication service for a small fee.  I am always happy to look at ebay auctions or photos and give an opinion as to whether your bag is the real thing !  Please feel free to email me thru ebay, where I will give you my personal address to send photos.

BONJOUR CHANEL FANS !!! CHANEL, the international luxury goods company, was founded in France by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in 1911 and continues as one of the world’s preeminent fashion houses.  "Coco" Chanel was the couturiere extraodinaire forthe  modern woman of the 20th century!  CHANEL strictly controls all design, manufacturing, distribution and advertising to ensure the highest level of quality of its products. The CHANEL product line includes clothing, fragrance, cosmetics, leather goods, watches, accessories, costume jewelry and fine jewelry. These products are sold through a network of CHANEL Boutiques, and select high-end retailers.  They are not sold on websites or wholesale stores.

The House of Chanel is still owned and managed by the Wertheimer family and is a privately owned company, unlike any other design firm today.    The boutiques still operates at  27, 29 and 31 Rue Cambon, with the Haute Couture division being located on the 1st floor of 31 Rue Cambon.  Gabrielle Chanel's apartment is located above 31 Rue Cambon and is preserved as a tribute to her.

Coco loved jewelry and designed and wore her own creations.  She used FAUX stones and was never seen without several strands of pearls and a cuff bracelet on each wrist.  She commisioned the renowned Gripoix family to create her designs and even today, this privately owned company is still commisoned by Chanel to produce the jewelry designs.

CHANEL MAISON DE COUTURE strictly prohibits anyone infringing on the integrity of their famous trademark  and fully prosecutes anyone who does so!
CHANEL has a legal department dedicated to removing counterfeit items listed on ebay to protect innocent buyers who think they are getting a deal of a lifetime.   Sellers  claim to be selling an authentic CHANEL for very little money.  NOT TRUE !  Most CHANEL bags listed on ebay are knockoffs/counterfiets.  Most of them have the "matching hologram card with a serial number"  usually this number is 7244764, ,  8947749, 9316391, 9395451, 9395455, 9675223, 9777617, 9889754, 9892039,  10218184, 10380486, 11062948, 10501946    10803549 ,and 10995820   which are all over ebay right now.  Counterfiets now have the hologram and matching card, so,  educate  yourself, call a CHANEL boutique and ask questions.   Think about it, why in the world would any legit seller list their "authentic, brand new bag"  which if real, costing  upwards of $2000.00 for a few hundred dollars.  If it is real and was a gift, Chanel will gladly refund or exchange the item.  I know, I buy and exchange all the time without any problem.  Also, if the bag seems priced close to retail, it could still be a knockoff, there are sellers out there without any remorse,  pricing these fake bags at $1000.00 and up, email me, I can provide names !!!!!  Also, beware of sellers who have loads of designer bags for sale,   you can purchase knockoffs which are mirror quality from Japan and China,  I have sample books to prove it!  They are hard to tell real from fake.  But please note, not all sellers are out to make a quick buck, there are reputable sellers on ebay with a variety of authentic designer goods.

CHANEL uses high quality calfskin and goatskin(spring '07 line) on their bags NOT LAMBSKIN.  The Cambon line is made of calfskin only.       The entire "CAMBON" line was made in Italy, not France.  Same with the new  " COCO CABAS line"   The only exception to this was the first samples were Made in France when the Cambon line was first introduced,  but the collection was manufactured in Italy.  Of my 9 Cambons, only my very 1st purchase has a Made in France label.  It was a Chanel Boutique display, it was sold out, and  knowing the manager,  I was able to purchase this bag.   The Cambon line is also discontinued as of fall 2006.  They are sold out worldwide.  CHANEL does not sell 2nds to outside sources and any bag that is not PERFECT is shredded and destroyed to prevent anyone including employees of CHANEL to resell them.  Many websites, such as sacbelle.com  or  fetucci.com  claim to sell authentic bags buying them direct,  for a much lesser cost because they are 2nds. They do not scour the world looking for overstocks on Chanel bags and snatch them up to resell at  1/4th the cost.   NOT TRUE !!!!   I have contacted Chanel about this and they stand firmly, WE DO NOT SELL TO OUTSIDE SOURCES !  Does anyone think if  each Chanel  Boutique  only gets maybe 5 to 10 bags of any  particular style,  how does a website have hundreds of the same bag.  It is only logical they are counterfeits but they maintain that they are real and then buyers end up believing they bought this fabulous Chanel for a few hundred dollars only to take it in to Chanel and find out  "sorry, it looks really good, but it's a knockoff"  My Chanel girl tells me she has this happen every week !

Please be aware, CHANEL does NOT  authenticate  in writing any item for buyers, due to the fact of the high number of fakes out there.  Beware of   anyone who guarantees a refund with proof from a boutique manager in writing that the bag is not authentic.  Chanel NEVER offers written proof of authenticity from any of its stores.  They will however,  give you a verbal on any Chanel item.

I have bought CHANEL for 20 yrs and consider myself very knowledgeable.  I am dedicated to preventing unscruptulous sellers from ripping unsuspecting buyers off.  If you want a real CHANEL, make sure you ask tons of questions and know what a real CHANEL looks like, there is nothing next to the real thing, the qualtity is exceptional.  Not a flaw on their leather goods, if the seams are not perfect, you see any loose stitching, crooked CC logo, the "tip" pocket on the back, as Coco herself referred to this little pouch, is not lined up perfectly with the rest of the stiching, then it is most likely a cheap knockoff.  You can buy knockoffs almost anywhere for under 50.00, then these sellers are trying to pass them off and make a quick buck,  and believe me Paypal is not always quick to refund your money if the bag is not authentic. It is your word against the sellers,  so  always purchase your bag using your credit card, you can file a fraud claim with them and receieve a refund of your money.   Paypal is very quick to respond when your credit card company gets involved.

REPORT KNOWN SELLERS OF COUNTERFEITS  TO EBAY

When buying, check the feedback of the seller,  AVOID sellers who use private listings or keep their feedback private, list their item for 1 day or an extremely low buy it now price.  Do not expect to pay substantially less for an authentic Chanel than you would if you bought it directly from a Chanel boutique.
Also, watch out for any seller who refuses to answer questions about authenticity.  Any reputable seller would be more than happy to discuss authenticity with a buyer.  Especially on a high end bag.
A few more hints on what to look for :

Authentic Chanel bags have a black and gold authenticity card with a "break-away" hologram sticker  with matching number inside.  This sticker can't be removed without it breaking into pieces, thus ruining the hologram sticker.  Chanel started ussing the break-away hologram in the late 1980's , before this, the serial number was on the bottom of the bag and was of one piece.

Fake Chanels have a black authenticity card that looks like it is sealed in plastic or laminated.  The serial # inside is usually white with no hologram and is of one piece.

Authentic Chanel comes with a white hangtag made of paper with the style #, style name, bag color, bar code and the price  listed on it.

Fakes will have a metal tag with the CHANEL name on it, a black Chanel tag with the CC logo or a leather tag that reads, genuine leather.  The Cambon line does not come with the little coin/makeup pouch attached to the inside leather strap.

Authentic Chanel dust bags are black with the word C H A N E L across the front but no CC logo.  Same for the shopping bags.

Fake dust bags come in white with black lettering or black with white Chanel and the CC logo.  Some read Chanel PARIS

Also, avoid auctions that use stock phots from  chanel.com

Avoid websites that have large amount of high end designer bags that claim theyare authentic bags bought  direct from the designer.  Not one high end designer sells 2nds to any source and they do not sell to wholesale websites.  If you come across a Chanel or any other high end bag and the website has multiple bags for 1/2 the original cost, you can bet they are fake.

Learn about the bag you wish to purchase and how to spot a fake.  It will save you alot of heartache in the end.  If it seems to good to be true, it probably is just that, another seller trying to pass off a fake as real.

How to protect yourself from fakes! 10 Golden Rules  ON DESIGNER GOODS

The growth of the Internet as a sales and distribution channel over the past decade has led to the unprecedented proliferation of fake or counterfeit merchandise. At the same time, technology has improved manufacturing capabilities around the globe to unparalleled standards to the point where “fake” is no longer synonymous with “poor quality” – everything looks the same now.

Furthermore, as venues such as ebay™ and Yahoo Stores™ attempt and to arrest the growth of counterfeit’s from taking over their sites, it is becoming increasingly important for wholesalers and small resellers to take necessary steps to protect themselves from getting duped into purchasing fakes.

Why? Because, quite simply, it is illegal to sell counterfeit merchandise. And as a seller, ignorance it is no excuse – it is your duty to know the provenance of the merchandise that you resell for capital gain. Furthermore, you need to able to demonstrate that you have taken the proper steps to purchase authentic merchandise.

So, how can you protect yourself as a buyer of goods? If challenged by a brand, or a third party venue, how can you demonstrate good intent on your part, and avoid serious legal repercussions (and, you can be certain, if you are selling fakes, it will catch up with you one day).

Fortunately, there are a number of steps that you can take to protect yourself and avoid at least 95% of the scams that are out there.

Here are 10 Golden Rules that you should scrupulously follow when purchasing trademarked and branded merchandise from third party vendors:

Rule 1. – Use your common sense!! If a deal is too good to be true, you can be sure that it is not true. For instance, Louis Vuitton™ does not have sales, burns all its surplus, so basically if someone is selling new Louis Vuitton™ merchandise, it is fake – and that probably means everything else they are selling is fake too!! Prada™ handbags do not sell for $50, period. Got it?

Rule 2. – Know your brands. If you are selling a brand, please do your due diligence on a brand – research it before you sell it. This is easy to do and will save you a lot of problems later. For instance, authentic CHANEL ™ sunglasses are very, very hard to purchase in the excess market, over 90% of them are fake. This is easy to learn. CHANEL™ is a brand that is licensed to Luxottica™, the largest manufacturer of designer sunglasses in the world. And they also own Sunglass Hut™ retail stores. So they do not need to sell their surplus sunglasses, they keep them in-house – and thus, it is very hard to get them. This is different from Gucci™ and Christian Dior™ sunglasses. These are made under license to Safilo™. Safilo™ does not have its own retail distribution, so it out sources its surplus inventory and, thus, it is easier to find them in the surplus market (which does not mean that all Gucci™’s are real, of course!!).?

Rule 3. – Quality Control. This is the rule that most people do apply – but it is a lot harder than people realize to spot a fake. Sometimes, there are just cheap knock offs, and these are easy to spot. However, many fakes are actually exactly the same as the real thing. More on that in next article. So, when inspecting merchandise, do you know what to look for? The best way is to go and buy one of the real ones from an authorized store (you can always return it later). If you cannot do this, then check two samples side by side. Count the stitches – the stitch count should always be the same. Check the labels – the content, font, positioning. Smell the merchandise, silly as it may sound. Measure it. And know your brands – every brand adopts certain anti-counterfeiting measures, try to search online and find out what these are. And, finally, if you are investing a lot of money, there are specialist laboratories that will do a full spectrum of tests for you. Oh, and one thing – pay for a sample if you have to – better to lose a little than a lot!! ?

Rule 4. – Pricing. The price that you are being asked to pay for a piece of merchandise tells you a lot about the merchandise. Much of this is the application of Rule 1 – common sense. For instance, if you search on ebay, you will see a lot of listings for black Prada™ micro fiber MV515 handbags. They retail for $236. They are on ebay™ for as little as $50. Most importantly, they retail for 136 Euros in Italy. So do the math: These bags are part of every season’s collection, with minor modifications each season, so they are never heavily discounted. Best price you will pay in Italy is 50% of retail, plus you can get your Value Added Tax back upon export (20% in Italy). So that is 56.66 Euros. The current exchange rate is $1.30 to 1.00 Euro. So that is $73.66. Then you have to import them (shipping costs, say 5%) and pay US Customs duties, which are 19% for synthetic material handbags. Now the landed cost is $92. And the seller has to make a profit for their efforts. So, basically, unless it is fake, are you really going to find an authentic MV515 handbag for less than $110?? No – and apply the same pricing analysis to all your purchases. Understand and be familiar with the normal surplus price for different product categories that you specialize in.?

Rule 5. – Know who you are buying from. You have to know who you are buying from. The best is to always visit their warehouse/showroom and get to know them. If you cannot do this, then it is essential to only deal with vendors that:
i) Have a US domiciled business (are a legally incorporated company within your jurisdiction - whether it be the US or any other Country) such as a Corporation or an LLC.
ii) Have a US address, together with contact details – phone, fax, email address (non-free), website, etc. The more the better.
iii) Have a trusted and good reputation within your merchandise category. Check them out, or verify third party references.
You really want to avoid purchasing trademarked / branded goods altogether from vendors that do not meet these strict criteria – unless you are buying the goods yourself overseas. You have absolutely no recourse if you have any problems. You are just exposing yourself to be extorted. If a trademark owner comes after you, how are you going to catch up with your supplier? You do not know where they live, how to find them. Are you really going to sue a supplier through the Italian Law courts? No, did not think so.?

Rule 6. – Chain of Title – Everyone always asked for the so-called “Sanitized Invoice”. Frankly, these are generally not worth the paper that they are written on unless they form part of the “chain of title”. The chain of title is the trail of invoices from the original trademark owner, or authorized third party seller, to you, the buyer. This is what a trademark owner is going to look for when they come after you – that you form a link in the appropriate chain of title, and that you have the paperwork to back that up. A sanitized invoice on its own does not give you this at all. In fact, you can go online, or to a street corner in Italy, and buy lots of “sanitized invoices” – they are all useless. You need to be in the chain of title. What this means is that, having adhered to Rule 6 above, you get an invoice from your supplier. That invoice must specify exactly what you purchased including the brand name written out in full, and the style number of the items that you purchased. In addition, the invoice must specify that the goods that you are purchasing are guaranteed to be authentic. This invoice is much more valuable to you and will protect you far more than a sanitized invoice. Of course, if you are buying a large volume of merchandise, you should also ask to inspect or receive copies of the suppliers own invoices with its suppliers. Many suppliers are reluctant to provide these as the do not want to divulge their sources, and this is understandable. Furthermore, you can then reuse these invoices time and again outside of the control of your supplier to protect your own sale of counterfeit merchandise (a practice known as “mixing”). Accordingly, many genuine suppliers are very wary to provide original supplier invoices. And, as long as you have fully applied Rule 6 above, and have the invoice in hand as specified here in Rule 6, you are generally going to be OK. ?

Rule 7. – Know the US Customs & Import Laws – You must research and understand the US Parallel Import laws. It is completely within your rights to import authentic merchandise from non-US domiciled brands and re-sell them, within certain limitations. However, it is not permitted to import US domiciled brands, such as Ralph Lauren™ and Tommy Hilfiger™, into the US without the permission of the respective brands. So know the rules up front and avoid obvious mistakes and pitfalls.?

Rule 8. – Start Small and Insist on Returns – When you are starting out with a new supplier, always start small. Do not be bullied into a large order. That in itself is a red flag. Furthermore, insist on your ability to return the merchandise if you are not happy with it. After all, this is your right. Again, another red flag if the supplier does not accept returns.?

Rule 9. – Pay with a credit card – Credit card payments protect you, they are always better than cash or bank wire transfers, until you get to know a supplier and your orders grow in size. If you use a credit card for payment, keep records, and you can always file a chargeback.?

Rule 10. – Use your Common Sense!!! Yes, that again. And again.?

If you apply these 10 simple rules, you are not going to avoid every scam, but you are going to avoid 95% of them, and while you are at it, you are also protecting yourself from any legal liability. Good luck out there!
