Xenon HID headlight kits and conversions. Upgrade your stock lights to ultra-bright high-intensity discharge bulbs and ballasts. Using standard bulb types such as 9004, 9005, 9006, 9008, H1, H3, H4, H7, H9, you can change from a incandescent bulb to an arc discharge. The upgrade will use less power and output more light. Projector and reflector type housings can use these bulbs, however you will want to match the HID bulb type. The Xenon bulbs put out a very small source of light, so you must shield and/or focus this to produce the best output. The Xenon bulbs are of type projector or reflector: D1S, D1R, D2S, D2R, D4S, D4R: you must match the D1, D2 or D4 to your ballast type. The S or R will depend on your intended housing: S is for projector, and R is for reflector. The only difference here is that the R bulb has an extra shield painted on to the surface of the bulb. When used in a reflector housing, this helps minimize the amount of stray light. Type D1 bulbs have a built-in ignition in the bulb socket, D2 use an external ignition usually built into the ballast. The D4 is a newer type found on Lexus made by Denso. The bulb uses no mercury, it requires a special ballast. We hope you have found this information useful.
