Silica Gel, Activated Clay and other Desiccants

I've been selling Silica Gel, Activated Clay and other Desiccants on eBay for more than three years. Over that time, I've received many questions, like:  What is a desiccant packet?  Do I need to use them when I pack up or store stuff to prevent moisture damage?  Should I use Silica Gel, Activated Clay or something else?  How much do I need to use?  How long do they last?  Can I reactivate them after they've become saturated with moisture?  I thought I would use this space to tell a little about myself and how and why I sell desiccants on eBay.

I had been in the marketing business for most of my life.  After retiring from the corporate world I began doing "consulting"; marketing and promotion for small, privately owned companies. My husband has been in the desiccant business for more than 25 years and asked me to re-design his web site.  After a couple of months of writing technical data and organizing his products to be easy to read and easy to understand, I felt I knew more about desiccants than any normal person needs to know. 

While cruising eBay one day, about two years ago, I decided to see if anyone listed desiccants for sale.  I found there were plenty of listings, but a lot of not-so-good information.  This is when I decided to become an eBay seller and offer Silica Gel and Activated Clay desiccant packs for at-home use.  I was sure I could guide people to buy the right desiccant for the right job, do it at a fair price and provide good, fast customer service. 

The biggest problem I saw was that no one was telling the consumer how much desiccant was needed to do the job.  I make sure every size and type desiccant I put on eBay has a description within the listing of how this particular product might be used. I also wrote a Desiccant Requirement Chart that helps the user determine how many desiccant packets should be put into their container to assure the prevention of moisture damage.  A printed Requirement Chart is tucked in with each order I ship. 

My first listing on eBay was for Silica Gel packets and I was thrilled when I got my first order.  Pretty exciting to see my very first positive feedback that followed!  Since then I have added larger packs and smaller packs of desiccant to accomodate a wider variety of uses.  I have also added Flower-dri, a very fine, bulk packed Silica Gel used by hobbiest and Container-dri, used mostly to protect a car, boat, RV or other vehicle in storage. 

My husband and I live in Southern California.  We have a fairly small three bedroom house and my long-retired father occupies one of those bedrooms.  I work entirely out of the spare bedroom/office/warehouse in my home.  I hand pack and personally ship every item I sell on eBay.  I am proud to say, to date I've received 100% positive feedback on eBay.

NOTE:  I was away from my eBay business for several months and asked a family member to handle it for me.  BIG MISTAKE!  I apologize to any of my customers who might have received less than perfect service.  I'm back now and will provide the same excellent service you expect.
