Scalarags - Get Yer Garb On . . .                 Welcome to my "About Me" page!   Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have loved to work with my hands as long as I can remember. I was always either drawing something or making things from art kits my Mother would buy for me. My Father was an upholsterer, so we always had beautiful fabrics around the house. He would re-upholster our furniture about every 3 years. I always wanted to go with him to the fabric store.   I decided to take a sewing class in high school. The teacher had taught us the basics like installing a zipper, the rest of the time she was at her desk, not really paying attention to what we were doing.  I did not feel at that time that sewing was for me.    I decided to stick with what I knew best.  I did some floral arranging, wedding decorations as well as Christmas decorations.  I also had a full time job at a desk 8 hours a day, dreaming of the day I may have an opportunity to do something artistic all day and actually make a living at it.   In my high school theatre class, we had taken a field trip to the Renaissance Faire in Los Angeles California. I was absolutely astonished.  I loved the atmosphere and especially the costumes.  I have always loved costumes and European history.  This place had it all.  I had taken my parents and other family members for quite a few years after that.  I had never entertained the idea of actually participating by sporting a costume though.  The renaissance faire eventually moved and I did not attend for quite a few years.   I had missed going to the faire so I found out where it had moved to and I started attending again. By this time, I had a niece and nephew that was under 13 years old, which made it much more fun. My niece wanted to go more and more and eventually we started going every year. My nephew was a little skeptical and it took him some time to come around. The first time he had gone, the workers had placed an axe in his hand to throw at a straw target........he was traumitized.  He thought everyone was looking at him. My niece was pulled into the Maypole activities. She was not very happy at first, but, each time she walked around, her smile was a little more evident and eventually it evolved into laughter.   My niece and I had finally gotten the nerve to dress up. We had worn store bought peasant skirts and shirts just to see if we would like it.  We had so much fun! It was much better as a participant.  I had decided to purchase our "authentic" garb for the following year on E-bay. My niece had a wonderful costume. She still wears it to this day.  My costume had fallen apart on the first day that I had worn it.  I had spent as much money on mine as my niece's garb. I was pretty unhappy to say the least.  I started looking at the sewing and I knew I could do a better job.   I had purchased a couple of patterns.  My insecurities from high school were running amuk.  I put them aside and was determined to learn to sew no matter what.  I was so amazed as to how easy it came to me!  Everything I tried to sew came out perfectly!  It was so much fun because I could personalize our costumes.  We started getting alot of compliments at the faire.  I decided to gather up my nerves and make one to list on E-bay.  I have since then, gotten so many e-mails from customers who love their costumes.  I knew this was my calling. I said goodbye to my boring desk job and hello to my new life!  As they say........ the rest is history.......   I try to make my costume designs unique by using exquisite fabrics with rich vibrant details and styles that are not the "norm" .  My costumes are not for the timid, but, for someone that wants to stand out and be noticed!  I use only quality materials and all items are made by me. I had learned the hard way that if you want something done correctly, you need to do it yourself......... I will leave it at that!    I spend many hours evaluating different fabrics and notions. Both my niece and I wear my garb as do my friends, so I know how they wear and fit.  I use only professional grade grommets and I serge or finish all seams to prevent fraying, even the inside seams of my bodices or cinchers. I use only steel boning and I have done extensive research to ensure the boning is used/placed properly.  I personally do not like to see the outside stitching that contains the boning, so the boning is concealed as much as possible.    I will be adding many new styles in the upcoming year so please check back often.  I will be making a line of plus size garb as well.  I personally am a plus size and I know how difficult it is to find stylish garb.  I will be embarking on childrens wear and some mens wear as well.  Here are a few of the costumes I have made in the past:       Thank you for taking a moment of your time to read my page.     I Will accept Paypal, money orders, or cashiers check. If there are any problems with the timeline, please let me know.  I am pretty flexible. I do not have an inventory so nothing is started until payment and measurements are submitted. Shipping is a flat fee of $9.60 for costumes and $6.50 for small things such as bodices and cinchers. Shirts are $5.25. I use Priority Mail only. Your item should be received about 2 - 3 days after it is shipped. I charge actual shipping costs. I do not add any additional charges to cover the E-bay fees I incur. International bidders, please inquire before bidding. If shipping to Alaska or Hawaii, please inquire as well. I do not accept returns. All sales are final. The bodices I make are specifically made to your measurements.  I am always here to help you with any questions you may have about measuring before purchasing.  Please be careful when measuring yourself. It may be easier if you have someone else help you with it. Your bra size or other clothing sizes will not be the same as your actual measurements, so please refrain from using them. If you need a skirt longer then 39 inches, please let me know.  If you have any other concerns about sizing, please let me know that as well!
