A to T Lamps Philosophy About Selling Light Bulbs For Different Applications
We have noted that many establishments are selling light bulbs for large sums of money and providing inaccurate information about the various aspects of lighting.
We believe consumers should have accurate information upon which to make decisions about lighting.
There are 3 specific components of lighting that are important to understand.
The first is the color of light. It is measured in units of Kelvin. This may be referred to as color temperature. The range of the Kelvin scale is 1500 to 9000, visible light. The lower the number the warmer or more yellow the color the higher the number the cooler or more white and blue is in the color. The human eye cannot see all of the color in the range of color temperature.

The second is the Color Rendering Index. CRI, is the most often incorrectly noted aspect of light in various literature. The range of this scale is 1 to 100. The CRI is the ability of the light to allow the human eye to see colors separately and accurately. Much appears to have been made about this aspect of lighting when it has little to do with anything except the ability of humans to see colors accurately. The index was created for color matching in applications like photography printing. The comparison of CRI can only be made with light sources at the same Kelvin temperature or the CRI has no real meaning in the comparison.
The third aspect of lighting is the amount of light or Lumens. The scale begins with zero, which represents total darkness. The other end of the scale is not well defined it is so bright. This measure is also referred to as Lux. The literature from the National Institutes of Mental Health note that the affliction of Seasonal Affective Disorder can be helped by increasing the amount of light, lumens, and changing the Kelvin, color, of light.
When light is seen through a prism the various colors that make up light can be seen.
The range of the wavelength of light is from 300 to 1500. The wavelength is measured in nanometers, nm.
Humans can see light from approximately 450 nanometers to 650 nanometers.
Ultraviolet light exists from 300nm to 400nm. Infrared light exists from 1000nm to 1500 nm. Various online pictures show this when you enter visible light spectrum as a search item online.
Special light applications that call for ultraviolet light or infrared light indicate this by indicating in nanometers the color of light. This is often confused with CRI. It is not the same thing. The applications are calling for different wavelengths of light not CRI
What is a "Long Life" Light Bulb ?
We have noted many vendors sell, ong lifelight bulbs for large sums of money. In keeping with our company philosophy of providing the consumer information upon which to make their lighting decision we are providing information about ong lifelight bulbs.
The usual long life light bulb has a rating of 130 volts. This effects the life of the light bulb and the light output or lumens of the light bulb.
Your household electric current is running at approximately 120 volts. The 130 volt light bulb was made to run at 130 volts. The 120 volt current causes the filament to glow in the 130 volt light bulb, but not at the maximum brightness.
The light bulb lasts approximately 3 times as long as a 120 volt light bulb, but it produces approximately 20% less light.
This means that you will need to purchase a higher wattage light bulb to gain the same brightness. Many people use 130 volt light bulbs in applications where the light bulb is on for long periods of time. A second application is to place the 130 volt light bulb in locations that are very high or difficult to reach.
Many different kinds of light bulbs are produces in a 130 volt type. The price is usually a little bit higher because the demand for the light bulb is lower and not as many are made.
We carry many 130 volt light bulbs at A to T Lamps, Inc. We would be pleased to become your light bulb source.
