Who am I and what am I doing here?
I've been collecting fantastic fiction in various formats since about 1974. Before that I was normal. I just checked the books out of the library and read them. As a kid I was hooked on the Tom Corbett, Space Cadet books . A little later Heinlein, Clarke, etc. The major bomb dropped when Lancer released the Conan series in the mid '60's. From there to Lovecraft and Burroughs. In 1974 I discovered Arkham House books. From there...Weird Tales and the other pulps. Although I read lots of comic books when I was younger, I never collected (or sold) comic books. To me the funny books are a whole 'nother animal and are not really connected to the tradition of fantastic fiction except in the most tenuous way (just like TV shows).eBay activity.
Although I am not a professional bookseller I usually try and post a few items for auction. It's the only way I can maintain my book habit. I try to keep my grading on a professional level though. I believe in all of the hundreds of items I've posted I've only had returns on two items (and one of these was a 50 year old $900 Arkham House book that the buyer thought "smelled musty"-he was nuts but I gave him his $ back anyway). The one negative on my feedback was from a creep who had already stiffed me on one deal and I cancelled his bid after I had asked him to retract it and he had refused. He didn't like that. Most of my eBay experiences have been fairly pleasant and I've met some nice people through the email exchanges. About 95% of my eBay activity is in the book/pulp areas but I occasionally stagger over into the electric guitar area. I can't play worth a crap but I really like cool electric guitars.Heavy Weight King (24 1/2 lbs)-Whitey
