The Floyd Family

My husband and I were married over 8 years and dreamed of a family.  I was introduced to a black lady looking for someone to adopt her 26 month old daughter.  Now my husband and I are both white.  We decided we would adopt her and the color of our skin didn't matter.  So the next morning, I drove just over one hour to pick her up.  I'll never forget it - it was September 9, 2004.  Let me tell you - I was in love with this little angel from the first moment I saw her.  It was so much fun finally getting to shop for a child.  It was exciting.  On January 14, 2005, her adoption was finalized.  It was official - I was a MOM!   

Now for those of you who don't know a lot about adoption - I did not have to have any contact with the birth family.  But out of the kindness of my heart, I tried to find birth mom once or twice a year so we could dine together.  I always took her pictures and she enjoyed seeing the little girl she gave birth to.  She told me she was pregnant with twins.  In July of 2005 she gave birth to twin boys.  On February 5, 2006, I caught up with her at her father's house.  I had never met her father and during our conversation learned her father had never seen his biological granddaughter.  So I made plans for Dalasia and I to visit the following day.  I met her father and the twins, too!  Her father cooked for us and before I left that day, I was asked to adopt the twins.  I didn't think twice or even consult my husband.  (He found out after I was on my way home with them!)  Luckily my parents were at our house (it was Superbowl Sunday.)  Mom and I went to Wal-Mart and bought everything we could think of to get us through the night.  As a matter of fact, that was the nightly ritual for a solid week!  On June 9, 2006, we finalized the adoption of our twin sons.  It has been absolutely amazing and the older they get - the more amazing they are! 

I can't begin to tell you how deep the scars of infertility are.  But I can tell you that I know this was God's plan.  He kept these three children together and he didn't give them all to us at once!  Each child was given to us when He was ready.  I am eternally grateful to Him for blessing me with three beautiful children.

WHAT A YEAR 2008 was!!!  On March 28, 2008 Joseph was officially diagnosed with Autism.  I have found a lot of useful information on two websites listed below if you or someone you know has a child with autism.  In June 2008, Dalasia was disgnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder.  I went to a seminar in Tennessee in July to learn more about this disorder, how it was caused, and how to help our daughter.  It was conducted by Nancy Thomas who has over 30 years of experience helping RAD children.  She is absolutely amazing and was able to provide me with a wealth of information!  I bought her DVD's and books.  Her website is below if you or anyone you know has a child with RAD.  In November 2008, David was diagnosed with ADHD.  In December 2008, David was diagnosed with ODD.  2009 is off to quite a start!  January 7, 2009 Dalasia was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.  I'm pretty much speechless at this point.  Please lift our children up in your prayers.  We believe God has this in His hands and will continue to guide us in the right direction so we can do what is best for all three of them.
