I guess my greatest interest in art (in the general sense of the word) came about through a love of reading, which was fortunate as 75% of my degree was in English Lit!.
Even today I will read anything and everything from politics to romances (I particularly like Stephanie Laurens and Celeste Bradley for romances and Susanna Gregory and Paul Doherty for historical delective novels) - fiction or non-fiction -classics and modern wrtiers. Over the years I've read some 'strange' books including the two earlier versions of Lady Chatterley that Lawrence worked on but which were rejected (if the censors thought that the final copy should be banned Heaven only knows what they would have thought if they'd read 'John Thomas and Lady Jane'!) and if I'm having a quiet day I can get through 2-3 books.
But my love of art is not just restricted to literature. As a child my parents used to take me to art galleries and museums so I'm equally at home surrounded by original artwork, photos, crafts etc.
I have an equally eclectic taste when it comes to music loving anything from David Bowie to Wet Wet Wet - Nina Simone to Mahler. I would only ask that you keep boy and girl bands as far from me as possible for they really don't do anything for me (wrong generation!!)
But it didn't stop there and now the fact that I have an idea of colour and an interest in history means that recently I changed careers.
After I left Uni I fell into marketing but gradually this has taken a back seat and now I have my own interior design business, Style by Design Limited and I turn my hand to more creative pursuits such as the designing of mirrors and modern art for clients(www.stylebydesignltd.co.uk). The website is more than just an advert for my business but is also an info-site offering simple overviews of past eras and how to recreate as well as links to some of the best retailers and craftsmen.
I'm always on the look out for more talented people who would like to showcase their work (so if anyone out there has any talents they'd like to show off do get in touch).
