My Babyloves and Me
Hi! And thanks for stopping by. If you've not noticed by now, I've discovered I have a fetish for old textiles...one that I enjoy sharing with like persons. My knowledge of all thats out there isnt the most expertise, but I'm learning more all the time. I think at times how nice it would be to have a mentor in this area, to teach me things I dont comprehend from reading books. I know that I'd be full of inquisitiveness and I'd most likely be very time consuming to another, with all I'd want to find out. ; ) My oldest granddaughter Emma (I feel) is going to take after her MahMah in that she ooohs and ahhhhs when she sees the pretty fabrics and finished pieces when she comes to visit. As a baby, one of her favorite toys was a box full of fabric pieces I'd given to her, full of different colors and textures. She'd sit there watching her favorite toons while rubbing a piece of this or that between her lil fingers. OH!!!...I also found at times when she was teething that she often reached for the velcro in her box of treasures and would chomp down on it as hard as her lil mouth could. Of course the pieces were always long enough that I knew her chances of swallowing them were nil, along with my watchful eye. My youngest granddaughter, Trinity....well her thing is buttons. I keep her supplied with them and often take her new pieces to add to her collection. I think her best times tho are when she comes up here and I empty a huge container of them for her to go through...MahMahs collection is of a MUCH bigger variety and she always wiggles one or two away from me that I'd hoped to hang on to. ; ) Btw...Miss Emma is 5 now and Miss Trinity is 3. But soon Trin will be 5 too (she often reminds me) and I think she feels a magical world will open up before her very eyes, when that day comes. ; ) I started sewing as a pre-teen, back when home ec was a requirement. My mom always had her sewing machine going, it seemed. Most of our clothes she made and I was very cool with that as she pretty much let me pick out my fabric preferences along with the pattern styles. As a lil girl, Id iron my grandma's hankies for her...she paid me 5 cents for each one I did and I know I'd of done them for free...they were just so pretty and I truly prided myself on making them as straight as I possibly could. I often wonder what happened to Grandma's old hankies...seems she had tons of them. Mom still sews and in the past few years, I rekindled my interest. My head swarms with ideas Id like to put into effect but it seems there's never enough time. I have a fabric room, not to be confused with a sewing room. ; ) Its full of nothing but fabrics. I swear, they're in boxes, hanging from the closet racks, in drawers and I keep adding more while all the time, the furniture in there has to go, so I have room for all the pretty prints and textures.

Another of My Life Interests
I attend estate sales, estate auctions, frequent antique stores and flea markets...in order to hopefully come across the pieces I place here in my lil store. It seems I can always find SOMETHING to buy and often, when I attend a sale and browse through it, I'll tell my hubby theres nothing of interest there for me, yet when I leave, my car is overflowing. (haha!) I have friends who keep an eye out for the sort of items Im interested in and here in the middle of the mid-west, altho we dont have the most elegant pieces available, we have the most charming pieces....and thats what Im into....charming. Id like to think that every piece I have, or pass on to you, that we give thought to its past use, how it was treasured, the effort that went into making it, etc. I think that helps us appreciate these old pieces more. If I seem to get a lil overzealous at times, it's most likely because I am!! Some pieces just excite me more than others. I sink wash most of the old handwork I offer for sale, machine wash the fabrics. I never dry them in the dryer but put them on a hanger inside to air dry or outside on the clothesline. Have you ever machine dried a chenille spread and seen how much lint is left behind? Think about how all of that is now missing from your bedspread!! Egads! ; ) I'll finish this by saying how I enjoy all of the personal emails I get from fellow ebayers, just informing me of this or that or letting me know that they share the passion too or that going through the old patterns brought back some pleasant memories. It always makes me feel good to hear from a fellow admirer! And to those who purchase from me, I want to say how lucky I am to have come across such wonderful people on here and how I appecreciate each and every one of you...even those with constructive criticism! I may make my mistakes but I DO learn from them. ; ) My best to all of you....Namaste!
