 Although I
comfortably used PayPal for four years, they no longer support South African buyers like
me. BidPay (money orders) and similar
systems work well enough when buying from North America although (fortunately for
the seller) it's customary for the buyer to pay for the transaction! Since I am a
professional Web designer, I even once designed a an eBay Shop page (complete with a new
logo and banner) as payment for an eBay purchase!
Until recently my eBay username was Sergei-Rachmaninov (after the
Russian composer). I then felt I needed to change to something less cumbersome and more
indicative of my gender before attempting to actually sell. And yes, I do
have a passion for typography. When I was little, my father used my bedroom as his study,
and kept the Letraset catalogue there. It became my favourite bedside book. |

| A customs declaration is not required for all
parcels, but when your postal sevice requires one and the item is uninsured, state only
the amount that the buyer paid for the item. (If you include the
shipping cost as part of value, the buyer may have to pay import duties on the entire
amount, which would be incorrect, but impossible to dispute when signing for delivery.) |

Over the years I have bought a variety of iems at eBay, including software, scales, and
other items needed at work, and also coats, ice skates and similar things for friends and
family.
Other than a few software opportunists, most of my transactions have been with
friendly, helpful people, such as the husband-and-wife team from Winksters Wear-House and other home business owners. |
Notice to software sellers
Amongst other activities, I teach at a local university, and so I am eligible to buy Academic
Licence software. (Proof of my status is available upon request.)
DO NOT TRY TO SELL ME ILLEGAL SOFTWARE, because you can be sure
that I will report to eBay and to the BSA. Please review eBay's Terms of Service regarding
restricted items if you are unsure of what is allowed. Note particularly that OEM software
must be shipped along with some appropriate hardware, and that with many software
applications, product keys are not enough; licence papers are also required. If
you didn't know better and made an honest mistake by auctioning something that isn't
allowed, simply withdraw the item. |
