| Angie Reed Garner
I'm a second-generation self-taught artist. The study of ancient Greek history and culture has been a way for me to gain perspective on contemporary situations. There are at least minor classical references in most of my work.

My first gallery affiliation was with Graystone Gallery in Portland OR, beginning in 1994. I've exhibited around the US and even in Europe (Berlin). The internet has been a way for me to connect my work with collectors who enjoy my particular content.
I keep a blog (livejournal) to show and discuss my work, but more importantly to discuss art-related issues (using my own art world experiences as a jumping-off place). Please feel free to stop by and join in on any discussion which interests you. I've connected with some fabulous artists there .
I was born in Lexington Kentucky (1969), received a BA from Reed College in '89 (Classics), and have been painting full time since '95.
My mother, Joyce Garner, is also a narrative figurative artist with saturated color who works in oil. I never wanted to follow in her footsteps in any unthinking or automatic way, but she is an enormous influence and inspiration. I have experimented with various materials (textiles, drawing media, acrylics) and do occasional mixed-media works, but I am basically committed to working in oil. As mom says, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
You can see my mother's work
here.
She is an enormous influence on me, and sometimes vice-versa. Our work is different, but most viewers say they can tell we are kin.
