Until six years ago the firm was known as Stitch City Sew and Vac. The East Greenbush Flea Market in East Greenbush, New York, a suburb of Albany, New York, was where we first opened This has always been a one employee service company. I, Mel Wessot the owner and sole mechanic/technician, have more than forty years experience doing electro-mechanical, electrical and electronic, repair, redesign and installation. Planned Obsolescence I love old stuff All my life I have been dead-set against designing things to break. From what I see, up until themid-sixties, engineers designed sewing machines and vacuum cleaners as best they could, to last as long as possible. They were proud of what they did. Twenty five years working life was expected and given. No one even considered designing for a short working life. Now bean counters require engineers to design things to fail after a certain time. We do not have an unlimited supply of raw material . Most of us do not have unlimited funds to throw away on pretty junk Specialties I preferred , but I was not limited to repairing pre 1970 sewing machines and vacuum cleaners. I have an extensive stock of machines, accessories and parts for Singer, White, Elna, Pfaff, Viking, Kenmore and other old beauty sewing machines. I also repaired and sold rebuilt and/or remanufactured old reliable pre -1965 Electrolux, Hoover, Kirby, Compact/Tri-Star, Rainbow, General Electric, etc., vacuum cleaners. All work on repairs and sales was done by me alone. I did not job out any work to others. I did not buy reconditioned machines from others to sell, period. I did sell and repair some other newer vacuum cleaners. My parts inventory for these is also extensive. It was and is my standard practice to try to improve the design, components and lubrication of your repairs and items for sale. I did not sell a new sewing machine or vacuum cleaner when an old reliable will do the job. After one year of selling NEW Vacuums, i quit selling new in disgust. An Old Reliable stocks most every vacuum bag made and a lot that are no longer available. An Old Reliable's prices of vacuum bags, supplies and attachments will pleasantly surprise you. My Warranties were Sewing Machine Repair (non-commercial use)-one year adjustments, lubrication (client oiling voids warrantee), installed parts (labor included) Vacuum Cleaner Repair (pre 1965 and some others) (non-commercial use)--One Year installed parts and labor (common sense must prevail) Our Website was "anoldreliable.com" SOME CHANGES HAD to BE MADE. . I am now my wife caregiver. We have been married for 30 years. We now live in supported housing. I no longer do repairs. I have learned a lot. I help folks when i can.
