Artist Statement:

I have always had a fondness for sculpting in clay and an undying fascination with miniatures. As an adult, I was pleased to discover the brilliant invention of many quality polymer clays. Using my own custom mix of these wondrous new clays, I learned I could sculpt strong, sturdy miniatures without the use of a traditional kiln. The possibilities instantly became endless.

I find great satisfaction in the act of transforming a lump of clay into, for example, an ethereal being that could appear at any moment to take flight.  Using natural objects such as moss, acorns or driftwood incorporated into the sculpture lends a feeling that we can imagine that these creatures could actually exist in our own world. I find creating these whimsical characters very therapeutic. In fact, it is definitely a version of meditation for me. Sometimes when I begin a new one, I’ll have an idea or concept in mind, but overall, they tell me what they want to be and very rarely it’s the other way around! (cheeky li’l buggers that they are!).

I’m forever fascinated with the on-going process of growing and improving as I try new techniques, all the while striving to perfect old ones for bringing “life and soul” to all my small, mythical creations. Dr. Frankenstein indeed!

“As a kid, I was a huge fan of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop & Ray Harryhausen movies, so it was only a matter of time before I realized that I wanted to contribute to that fantastical world myself.  My thanks to Mr. Henson & Mr. Harryhausen and all the other exceptional artists I find so inspiring for helping me along my own path…..and I’m also excited to be helping to contribute to the cause that ‘Fantasy Art’ can become more widely accepted, not only as illustrative, but as ‘Fine Art’. I hope to convey a Fantasy world where storybook characters and mythical creatures frolic and play, a world where the viewer can be transported to another time or another place.”

                                     VICTORIA MOCK BIO:

Originally hailing from Southern New Jersey, minutes from Downtown Philadelphia, award-winning artist Victoria Mock is primarily known for her one-of-a-kind hand sculpted figures and Art Dolls. Based in Mythology, Cryptozoology and Fantasy, her work resides in private collections throughout the US, the UK and Europe. Now residing in Phoenix, Arizona, she currently accepts commissions for her figures and her work can be found in several shops and galleries throughout the US.

Her experience as an actor, make-up artist, and a photographer’s assistant allows her to incorporate these skills into her one-of-a-kind figures. Along with award-winning fantasy & comic book illustrator, Raine Szramski, founded Mastic Studios in 2002. As well as branching out to form Mocking Myths Studios in 2006 dedicated to Fantasy Art Dolls and sculptures.
