DOG TAG QUALITY COMPARISON We often get asked how our tags are different from all the others out there. There are two main areas where the tags themselves are different from our competitors. These are the quality of the materials we use and the quality and authenticity of our embossing. Our tags, chains and silencers are made in the USA unlike most other Chinese made tags. In addition we supply stainless steel chains while most other suppliers use nickel plated mild steel chains. The stainless steel chains are much more expensive but effectively prevent nickel allergy reactions. The difference in quality between our US made tags and the Chinese made equivilent is obvious when you compare the two tags shown below: This is one of our tags:
and this is a typical Chinese made tag. Note the scratches...
Our silencers are also much nicer than those usually supplied by our competitors. It's hard to tell from the pictures but our silencers are natural rubber and once fitted look much nicer than the cheaper 'shiny' alternatives. Here is a picture of one of our silencers:

We have the same model of electric embosser that is currently used by the US Military. We imported the machine brand new from the US. This is the type of embosser we use along with it's flight case.
Most other civilian suppliers are using either cheap manual embossers which provide very variable embossing quality and character positioning; or metal plate embossers which are typically used for embossing various different types of identification plates or credit card imprinter plates. The main problem with a metal plate embosser is that it embosses characters deeper than a tag embosser (same character height as the numbers on your bank cards) and therefore the characters are not the correct height. Here is a picture of the front and back of an embossed tag to demonstrate the quality of our embossing:
US Military tag format We often get questions asking what the genuine US military tags have embossed on them. This is the exact US Military specification: 1. First line. Beginning in the first space emboss the last name. Do not use spaces or hyphens 2. Second line. Beginning in the first space , emboss the first initial, a period, followed by Jr., Sr., I, II, III etc., as appropriate. Use only two initials. Beginning in the 10th space, emboss the blood type, followed by a space, followed by the RH factor. Indicate the RH factor by embossing "POS" or "NEG", as appropriate. 3. Third line. Beginning in the first space, emboss the Social security number with three/two/four format as follows: 123 45 6789 4. Fourth line. Beginning in the first space, emboss the appropriate letter "S" for small "M" for medium, or "L" for large to denote the protective mask size. Precede the appropriate letter with an "X" if the soldier wears an extra small or extra large gas mask. All marines both regular and reserve should have "USMC" embossed beginning on the first space on the fourth line. The mask size should then begin in the seventh space. 5. Fifth line. Beginning in the first space emboss either religion or sect as designated by the soldier. Show religious preference as follows (examples used were selected at random with no other purpose other than to set forth a pattern for guidance): a. Spell out the designation where possible; for example Baptist, Roman Catholic, Church of God, Moslem, etc. b. If a religious designation exceeds the space available, use meaningful contractions and/or abbreviations. (eg. American Evalgelical Christian Church = "AM EVANG CHR") c. When the individual prefers not to designate a preference or does not state a preference, use the words "NO PREFERENCE" The tag pictures above show what the correct format looks like. Many people also choose to take some elements of the genuine format and add some other information of their own. For example, you might like to use date of birth instead of social security number or if you are from the UK use your national insurance number as the social security number. The UK NI number has the same number of digits as the US SS number so the NI number can be spaced to look pretty authentic.
