Lessons I've Learned from eBay

The eBay Creed I believe in eBay, Fleamarket Almighty, Meeting place of Wealth and Thrift... and in Paypal, the only way to bid. An addiction born of a "good deal," the search for a rare find, the drive for the "special" and "unique." It's hell to be outbidded. With seconds left you bid again. The watch list rises to the heavens with the hope that one auction will come in under your maximum bid. It's pennies that separates the quick and the losers. I believe in Honest Sellers, No Reserve auctions, the Second Chance Offer, the payment really has been sent and my ability to "quit at any time." Amen |

Lesson #1: eBay is Tantric Shopping. The gratification is not completely in the items being purchased. It is in the search, the bidding and then finally, the wait for the package to arrive at the door. People looking for instant gratification shouldn't bid on eBay. Lesson #2: Shipping and handling are like taxes. People hate paying for it. I'm not sure why some believe that their item should just magically appear at their home well-packaged and safe at virtually no cost to them. Those people shouldn't bid on eBay. Lesson #3: In dozens of eBay purchases and sales, I have been disappointed perhaps three or four times. But many more times than that, eBayers have been charitable and conscientious, going out of their way to accomodate the transaction. |
