A little bit about us - My husband Frank and I work together as Autumn River Designs combining my art with his computer design,
photographic & woodworking skills. We share our home with our Corgi Lily and our cats Ember, Pewter and Frieda who is now known
as Fred.
I have drawn and painted for as long as I can remember. I also love animals, so it seems only natural to combine the two. I have
been creating my own Christmas cards for many years, and since my birthday is December 25 th, it is my favorite time of year. I
am an artist who began designing my own Christmas cards - a tradition that began twenty years ago - and has expanded into a love
for card design, in addition to my original art and print work. I work primarily in oils & pastels, in an illustrative style (but
I also work in pen & ink or watercolor as the spirit moves). My subject matter tends to be what I love; cats, dogs (Corgis) &
nature. There always seems to be a new idea on the sketch pad. I hope that our work will bring a smile to your face, and if it
does than we have done our job.
A bout our archival 'Art Texture' tiles:
Most ceramic art tiles sold today can be handcrafted in one of several ways. We purposely finish our tiles & the high quality Giclee fine art print bonded
to them, in such a way that the lovely texture of the archival fine art paper (a beautiful thing in it’s own right) is not lost under a thick pouring of
resin, which for us would be the faster & easier way of doing them. Instead we take the slower - more time consuming method - of applying 4 hand brushed
layers of crystal clear acrylic varnish (a 4 day process) which beautifully protects the archival artwork - rated at 100 yrs - while still allowing the
gorgeous texture of the fine art paper to show through the lovely gloss finish - hence the name 'Art Texture' tiles.
We treat our tiles more as a work of art and less as a coaster for a beer bottle, and we hope you will too. It would be much faster for us to do it the
other way, but we think beautiful art should be treated - first and foremost - as art that you buy to beautify your home, and for that purpose, the entire
back is covered in cork to protect your finest furniture.
A little Bio on my three Corgis:
I have had the joy of being able to share my life with three beautiful Corgis. I have always been a cat person and to me a home
is not a home without a cat. I have never had a dog and than I met “Grover”. He was my first and my introduction to this delightful
breed. He was two years old when we adopted each other. His living arrangement was not working out and through various twists &
turns in his life we ended up together. Grover was a very outgoing, opportunistic, life of the party type who loved to be with
people. He was very willing to push the envelope, stubborn and if possible - very opinionated. He was a little too smart for his
own good, which did not always work in his favor.
Maggie was as different as night & day. She was a lovable homebody who kept her priorities in order, napping with her cats,
playing sock “tug-of-war” and getting a good belly rub. When I would work at my drawing table, she could always be found
underneath. My constant companion, who would bound out the door to greet me when I came home from work. Somehow no matter how bad
a day you have, a dog lets you know what is important. She was the inspiration for my Christmas Card - “A Christmas Gift of
Peace” which I put on eBay from time to time. Maggie left us too early and she is sorely missed.
Our current Corgi #3 is Lily. Being only 2 years old she is full of (shall we say) piss and vinegar. She enjoys hanging out with
our cat Ember (who is so old he creaks when he walks). Ember and Lily have been best buds since day one. Lily enjoys squeaky
toys, snow, lying on her back squirming in ecstasy, going for rides and just chasing the cats around in general.
Thanks for your interest in our work, and now it's back to the easel.
