Welcome to Hideaway Homestead!
Hideaway Homestead is our home and cottage industry in the Aquarius Mountains of northwestern Arizona.
Our 61 acres homestead is 8 miles up an often bumpy dirt road. We are independent of the power grid, and create our own power using solar and wind. Our water comes from a spring, our phone is cellular, and the tv, computer, and radio come to us via satellite. We have built our own home, and for the most part it is finished. There is still interior work that needs to be done, but that will all come in time.
We raise a large garden, planting many heritage seeds that we have saved. We keep a milk goat, and she provides us with milk, cheese, and ICE CREAM.
The gift of a spinning wheel a number of years ago, launched us on a new path. Since we were both raised in the country, we were of the opinion why buy fiber when we could grow it. We started with 3 angora goats, and over the years, our small herd has increased to around 30, raising both colored and white. They provide some wonderful fiber for spinning, and in the last year, we have started dyeing and processing premium doll hair for many happy doll makers, and have a growing international clientele.
Roger built me a triangle loom for weaving shawls a few years back, and he is now producing them for sale. He has spent a lot of time engineering the new ones, and they are much improved since the first one he built for me.
We are also preparing to offer some fine spinning fibers and hand painted rovings in our store.
