Back to previous page  Barefootn's Book Boutique This might just appear a tad unfriendly, however, circumstances lend to my having to start this "About Me" page dealing with business. The first issue I need to address with you is shipping insurance. I offer insurance because things happen. I can't control the weather, anthrax, lazy postal workers, your neighbor's dog... Please don't ask for your money back when I have done all I can to get you your item. Once that item leaves my hands, you are responsible. My rule of thumb for insurance is as follows: If it is going to drive you insane not to receive a $3.00 item, then insure it!!! Yes, I know, you have done business on ebay and through the mail many times and haven't lost an item. You felt insurance was a waste of money. Then along come a Katrina or an Anthrax situation and you don't receive an item or two. You get frustrated. You later become angry. The seller has refused to not refund money due to insurance not being paid. You get angrier!!! Now, that is the amount of the item you need to insure!! Yes, I have not received a couple of items myself. One was cheap and one wasn't. Were they insured? NO!!! Did I get upset? Only for a moment. I had to remember that I didn't take the insurance because it appeared to be a waste of money. Did I negative feedback that seller? No, I looked at their feedback and saw how hard they had worked to maintain such a high feedback percentage. Being a seller, I can tell you it is hard work!. Oh, had they had a low feedback percentage I would have kicked myself in the behind (as I always check a seller's feedback) for being so naive and then I would have left negative feedback as all they were doing is taking people's money.  I realized what my money threshold is and am always sure to insure items priced over my "Magic Number".   Now the next topic of business is shipping.... I ship all books media. No, it is not the fastest way. It is the cheapest. I do it to make more money. There I said it. I admit it. It is just plain greed. No, not really, it does allow me to cover all my costs and keep my prices lower. After all, it is a competitive market. Media mail is not fast. Sometimes it is surprising and reaches a destination faster than expected. Other times, it really defines the whole concept of "snail mail".  With the storms in the south, please keep in mind that the postal hubs don't work independently and Katrina must have put a strain on other offices from non affected areas. Every book I have mailed this past week or so has been late. Please be patient. Your items are going out within a week of receipt of payment. My husband does all my mailings and sometimes he is only able to do this once a week. Most of the time it is more. He has a disability and he works so sometimes he is physically not able to do the mailings but once a week. This is his way of helping me out since he can't do much else around the house.  I am not going to "fire" him and make him feel he isn't contributing to the homefront by telling him he is not doing a good job. So once again I am asking for patience. We do try to mail out at least three times, however, it might be once a week every once in a while. Ok, I think that about covers it. Oh, yeah, a little about me. I have two kids. One is grown and expecting her first child in about two weeks. Our first grandchild. Our youngest is a delight and great help. We have soft hearts and minds when it comes to animals....we have four cats and two dogs. We currently homeschool. I sell books on ebay and do taxes during tax season. I think that is all there is to know about me.
