The Museum : How It All Began
Memories from childhood are some of the most precious we will ever possess. Even though we can't relive the past, at the Barker Character, Comic and Cartoon Museum we can still see some of the things that made being a kid so special. Do you remember your Roy Rogers Lunch Box? How about that Ronald McDonald Phone, Charlie McCarthy Puppet, Flintstone Band Toy, Lone Ranger Gun or Mickey & Minnie Hand-Car? They are all here to see along with thousands of other items of comic strip, cartoon, western, T.V. and advertising character memorabilia.
Personally amassed by Herb and Gloria Barker over 40 Years, each item contains the current market value of the collectible, although nothing is for sale. Come to recapture some of your old memories or make new ones for your children. Gloria wanted to open the
museum for children to come and enjoy, and perhaps be inspired to start a hobby
of collecting, and do something positive so the lure of guns, drugs and alcohol would be
less tempting. The museum contains over 80,000 items.
Herb Barker is a specialist in animation art and character collectibles. Herb and his wife, Gloria, began collecting character collectibles in the 1960's. They began collecting animation art in the early 1980's. Herb was chosen by Animation Art Magazine as one of the top ten most influential people in animation in America in 1999.
Herb is a licensed appraiser and a member of the New England Appraisers Association and has been for the past five years. He is also an Authorized Associate Dealer for Sotheby's and a charter appraiser for CollectingChannel.com's online appraisal service, Ask the Appraiser(tm).
In 1997, Herb, Dr. Herbert Barker, D.H.L. received the honorary degree of "Doctor of Humane Letters" from Briarwood College, Southington, CT in recognition of a life-long commitment to community service and his many years of outstanding giving and caring to all local, city and state charities. In 1990, Herb was chosen by the Connecticut Jaycees as "Boss of the Year" for the State of Connecticut.
Today in Cheshire, Connecticut, Herb and Gloria own the largest animation and entertainment art gallery in the world consisting of 30,000 square feet of retail, wholesale, and corporate headquarters. On June 1, 2002 the new Fine Art & Sculpture Division opened in our new 7,000 square foot showroom. Herb and Gloria also own Comic Strip Art Publishers Co. and Barker Publishing Co., the world's largest publisher of advertising and entertainment art.
Starting in July 2001, we began selling "museum doubles" from our vast collection. We also offer some hard to locate items and some extremely popular gifts.
The Barker Character Comic & Cartoon Museum is the only Official Celebriduck Museum in the world. "Rub-a-dub-dub with stars in your tub" as Hollywood meets home decor with the world's first ever celebrity bath tub duck line of the greatest icons of entertainment, athletics, and history.
We are your only source for Original California Raisin Art, and soon the "California Raisin Museum" will open.We are very proud to announce that the Barker Character, Comic & Cartoon Museum has aquired all the California Raisins movie props, art and memorabilia. These items will be displayed in our new addition to our museum: the only California Raisin Museum in America!
