Hello Everyone!! Thanks so much for visiting my about me page and checking out my auctions. Let me tell you alittle about myself. My name is Gina - Born in Brooklyn raised on Long Island and now living in North Carolina. I am a single mom with a beautiful teenage daughter.
| In 1999 I was diagnosed with lupus. Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease affecting the connective tissues of the body. It can affect any organ or part of the body.....skin, joints, kidneys, nervous system, lungs, heart, or blood. It can be mild, moderate or VERY severe! The immune system normally protects the body against viruses, bacteria and foreign substances. In lupus, the body loses the ability to tell the difference between foreign substances and its own cells creating antibodies against “self”. There is no cure for lupus. Lupus is more prevalent than sickle cell anemia, cerebral palsy and cystic fibrosis, yet it is the least known of all major illnesses. At least 1.4 million Americans are diagnosed with lupus and it is estimated that an additional one half million are yet undiagnosed. Ninety percent of people diagnosed are women between 11-45 years, but men, women and children of all ages and races can be affected. |
