ABOUT DELICA BEADS
What are Miyuki Delica Beads? The Miyuki Company in Japan manufacture Delica beads. The beads are distinct from seed beads in that they are cylindrical and have very thin flat walls (as opposed to the rounder, thicker walls of seed beads). They are perfect for off-loom stitches such as brick or peyote because of their uniformity and the large holes allow for multiple thread passes through each bead. Delicas give curved stitches such as a Spiral or Rosette a more angular shape and give a good definition to Herringbone weave projects.
This is a photo of a Bic Biro nib, to give an idea of scale.

Why choose Delicas? Delicas are an excellent quality bead which means there is far less culling - making them more cost effective. The range of colours and finishes is breathtaking and some have even become collector's items.
How much do they cost? Bead for bead, the average cost is about twice as much as most seed beads BUT Delicas are worth every penny. Because they are precision cylinders you have many more usable beads than in your average bag of seed beads. Purchased a few at a time, the prices will even out to close to what you would spend on similar seed beads.
Range of colour? The range of Delica colours is legendary. Many variations are obtained by specific glass treatments eg beads can be colour-lined, silver-lined, etched, "rainbow" finished or given metallic coatings. It is possible to dye beads to a certain colour whilst others have more than one glass treatment applied to them for effect.
How durable are the finishes? There are a few colours which MIGHT fade or change under unusual circumstances (such as being left in direct sunlight for prolonged periods). I do not consider this to be an issue with normal usage. There are also a few colours that Miyuki specifically state should not be dry-cleaned. As a general rule I advise not to dry-clean Delicas at all. (If you need more specific information on this please contact me). Finally, there are about 40 colours that Miyuki have said might rub off with friction or contact with skin acid. I do not stock any of these colours so my customers can concentrate on choosing their colours without worrying about the durability of the finish.
BEAD CORD AND THREAD
I stock every colour of C-Lon Cord and C-Lon D Thread
About C-Lon Cord
C-Lon Bead Cord is an extra-heavy twisted multi-filament nylon thread with a breaking strength of about 34lbs.
The thread diameter is less than 0.5mm. It fits easily through the holes in Miyuki 11/0 seed beads (once), and the doubled thread on a split-eye needle passes easily through Miyuki 8/0s. Perfect for bead crochet!
Loads of other wonderful uses - stringing, chinese knotting, macrame etc. (Tip: I paint the end of the beadcord with a couple of coats of clear nail varnish so I can thread without using a needle)
About C-Lon D Thread
C-LON WILL NOT FRAY OR NEED CONDITIONING
It is stretch resistant and strong.
It is similar to Nymo but much stronger and is in many more colours.
Size D is equvalent to nymo D but feels more like silk. I use it with size#12 English beading needles (#10 American needles).
If you like nymo you'll LOVE C-LON.
C-LON is a nylon monocord thread in which the fibers run parallel. This gives it a flattish cross-section. Such threads are bonded to keep the fibers from separating. In the sewing world, a small amount of bonding is used. Too much prevents the thread from running freely off the bobbin when used on a sewing machine. In the beading world, however, too little bonding makes the thread more likely to fray. If you need to use a lot of Thread Heaven or beeswax with your brand of thread, it probably indicates a low level of bonding. If the thread has too much bonding agent, however, the colors may get muddy or the bonding agent can discolor the thread. After extensive testing, C-LONdesigners have determined the degree of bonding which seems to work best for bead thread use. While some people continue to use wax or a thread conditioner, many report that C-LONworks perfectly for them as it comes off the bobbin. C-LON COLOURS DO NOT RUB OR WEAR OFF: C-LON is made by the vat-dyeing process. This process involves high heat and pressure which forces the dye completely through the thread. This process is more expensive but results in a permanent dye which should not rub or wear off.
