eBay has just decreed that all items must have a return policy specified. They have been urging us to do this for some time and I have resisted up until now. However, it is now mandatory. I have chosen to place all of my listings under the "returns not accepted" category because I don't want buyers to assume that they can buy something and then just return it if they change their minds. But be assured that I will accept returns if there are any problems with an order. This has happened extremely rarely, but if there is a problem that I can solve by taking a return, I will certainly do so. This almost never happens because:
Candle wick: Most of what I sell is candle wick and other candle making supplies. I send all of my wick in waterproof packaging to keep it from ever coming into contact with moisture. I also keep it in a moisture-controlled environment to keep it form expanding and hanging shape and structure. I don't think that any other eBay wick sellers do this, and it sets my wick apart from the crowd. No one has ever asked me to take back wick and most buyers tell me how much better my wick is from the wick the buy elsewhere.
Clothing: I sell clothing occasionally mostly in spurts as I have time to list it. I generally don't sell clothing that has the slightest flaw, and I always include exact measurements, down to the 1/4 inch. This has kept all of my clothing buyers happy. I have never had anyone find a problem with any clothing that I sold. I had one person ask for a return because the item didn't fit them. The buyer did not look at the measurements I posted, and taking a few basic body measurements can help any buyer to avoid buying the wrong size. Sizes are not constant across different clothing manufacturers, so reading the measurements is a much better indicator about how it will fit than going by the size alone.
Books: I love books and sell them often to support my book habit. I will accept a return if the book is damaged in transit. This very occasionally happens in the mail system with flat packages like books because mail carriers will sometimes attempt to cram them into smaller spaces by rolling or bending the package. I have a couple of returns over the years because of this occurring.
So, please be aware that the site pushing me into choosing either "yes" or "no" with regards to returns doesn't tell the whole story. I will accept one if there is a legitimate problem that is not the fault of the buyer.
