I would say that I'm a doll collector, but collecting isn't really the reason I'm into this hobby. Several years ago I found my first reborn baby on ebay and was mesmerized by the art form. Since I was a small child, I've always loved babies. All I ever wanted was a few of them for myself. Fortunately, I was able to have my own children and at the age of 20, became a new Mom to my oldest daughter Mishayla. She is now 23 years old and a great source of joy to me. Two years later, the birth of my other daughter (Alicia, 21) completed our family. They grew up too fast and I find that now I'm 40'ish...I still have the need for my arms to be full of baby. I played with dolls well into High School and would have kept it up if I would have found reborns much sooner. In 2004, I bought my first reborn baby; a snooky face Berenguer. Last year I bought a more realistic sculpt (Tommy Awake) by an Australian reborner who did a fine job. I'm hooked on reborns! I love to hold them, dress them, and look at them in their little beds. It's the best stress reliever there is besides an expensive vacation. I'm single handedly responsible for getting my Mom hooked on them too; she enjoys all the aspects of playing with dolls as an adult. Unfortunately, our hobby isn't without its share of people who respond with less than an enthusiastic attitude towards our "babies"; mostly because they simply don't understand the attraction.I myself have a couple of family members who are convinced I like doll babies because of an unwillingness to grow up all the way. Who knows? Maybe that's true. I just know that they make me happy. It's pretty simple. I think it's more "normal" to have a doll collection that you actually want to play with rather than one that just collects dust on a shelf.
So to all those people who don't "get it", just remember that people don't die from feeling young, and an imagination never hurt a soul. ( I DO believe in fairies...I DO! )
I recently purchased a "Tayla" sculpt for such a low price on ebay, he's been reborn so well, I just LOVE him!

I grew up in a family of 6 with 2 older brothers and a sister, plus my wonderful parents. We are all Christians and proud of it! I've been through some rough patches; but all in all, my life has been wonderful. The things that I thought would destroy me only proved to make me stronger. A divorce in 1998 was an unexpected bump in the road; but an unfaithful husband wasn't something I wanted to add to my list of things to put up with. I'm currently happily married to my best friend who whole heartedly supports my "hobby". We are temporarily looking after his folks who are in denial that they are old. We reside in a large 5th wheel in their back yard and probably will until the Lord takes them home. I have limited space, but that doesn't stop me from having my babies around me. Thank you SO much to all the great reborners out there for making my dream come true. I've always wanted a very realistic baby doll of my very own and now I've got three of them with one on the way!
UPDATE: I am currently awaiting my second beautiful reborn by "Bushel and a Peck" nursery. Wanda is fantastic! She's making "Siri" by Elisa Marx, an awesome sculpt I'm planning as a girl. I can hardly wait to see this baby! I'm proud to have gotten the chance to work with Wanda, my dream baby arrived on Jan. 22, 2009. I've wanted a "Rebecca" by Reva Schick ever since I saw Wanda's auction of her last year.
