How Wolves Stop the Conversation

Someone once said about working "Do what you love and the money will follow."  I have found this to be both true and not true.  As to the "not true," I used to have my own home renovation business.  I loved soliciting the jobs, giving estimates, doing the work and seeing the end result.  If I had been able to work by myself with sane customers, I would still be doing that.  Unfortunately, it didn't work that way.  Trying to keep a reliable crew is impossible in this day and age.  Working with some of my customers was even worse.  My last customer was the straw that broke the camel's back.  If by some chance you are a new contractor trying to build a business, I have one bit of advice: make your customer give YOU references!  There are some real nut cases out there.

Anyway, my second passion has always shopping for hidden treasures.  I love thrift shops, yard sales, moving sales and some low-key estate sales.  I have found that the quirkier something is, the better it will sell.  I think a person develops a sense after a while about what will sell and what won't.  My partner and I made a lot of mistakes at the beginning and ended up giving away 8 large boxes of things we purchased but could not sell.  After we realized how stupid that was, we sold a lot of stuff in bulk to recoup our investment at least.

Here I am now, selling on ebay, working on the computer, being creative, shopping at all sorts of fun places, researching and learning a lot about many different things.  This is a great way to make a living and, no doubt, one of the best sources of information.  I have learned more researching my "finds" that I ever did in any other field in which I worked.

Turning Lemons Into Lemonade

After a 14 hour Ebay Day, I love to play with my dogs and my wolf; go fishing, watch all of the Law and Order shows and Forensic Files and barbecue just about anything.  On my days off, all I want to do is fish, fish and fish.  If you know of any quiet private fishing holes in Northern Virginia, drop me a line.  Maybe we can drown some worms and down a few beers together.  I am Native American from the Cherokee tribe.  I practice the spiritual side, respect the land and wildlife and tickle a few ivories as I try to learn the piano.  I was raised in the land of the "mudbugs" and have a batch whenever I go home to see the folks.  There's nothing like a meal of mudbugs, corn, taters and an ice-cold beer.
