I am so excited to have a new eBay blog! It's called "In her shoes" and I cannot seem to stop creating posts for it! Please stop by!(oops - later note, I've fallen way behind on eBay blogging!)

Anyway, OK, OK, This isn't me, it's Nancy Sinatra, but this is just such a fabulous picture I had to share it. Those colors, that picture of Frank on the right, that composition, THOSE BOOTS... Also, "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" is my personal theme song, and by the way, Prada ripped off that boot she has in her hand a year or two ago.

Above is another favorite shoe picture. I just saw this in Vogue a few months ago and LOVED it. Yes, kate spade definitely had a shoe like the black clunky Mary Jane with the white buckle a few seasons ago.

Here is a picture I keeped tacked on the door of my shoe closet. It's called "Fall Collections, Paris, 1975, photographed by Guy Le Querrec. If I were a braver (or neater) woman, I'd show you a picture of the inside of said closet, but I am too ashamed. I strive for the Kimora Lee Simmons closet or the Nate-designed Oprah closet with all of the Polaroids of the shoes taped to the outside of the original boxes, but until I hit the lottery and can hire Philip Bloch or Rachael Zoe to come over to do it for me, it ain't happenin!

This is actually me, after a marathon wedding, you know, one of those ones that starts at like 10 a.m. and you are still feeling tipsy from the rehearsal dinner the night before, and by the time they take your picture you somehow have ditched the bridesmaid dress and wound up in a sweatshirt, glasses, and taken your hair down from the shellacked updo? Anyway, this is me at about 2 a.m., 16 hours after the ceremony began...

My "latent preppy tendencies" are coming out in the new colors. Try as I might, I cannot deny there is a good old prep in me I can't shake - I am a child of the '80's, and then I attended UVa for a really really long time. My first job was working in a Pappagallo store. The introduction of kate spade ten years ago and the resurgence of Burberry and Lilly Pulitzer in the past 5 years have contributed to the problem, along with the copies of Lisa Birnbach's "The Official Preppy Handbook" I picked up on eBay. It's hilarious, I highly recommend it!

Currently, I am a freelance landscape architect and copywriter, but more importantly, I am a total shopaholic. I love to shop everywhere from Thrift Stores to Neiman Marcus. My Ebay habit began when I needed room for a vacuum cleaner in my closet, and decided to purge the old Dooney and Bourke Purse Collection and Laura Ashley Pillow Collection. My tastes have become more modern over the years and it was time to let them both go.

Things I love:

I am obsessed with Marimekko fabric (side note:I would LOVE to see what my talented customers do with the fabrics, but so far no one has sent me a photo - if you do, I'll post it here) , funky sixties & seventies fabric in general, classic vintage clothing and accessories, shoes that are too expensive, bags from vintage wicker to modern-day Miu Mius, cowboy/cowgirl-themed items (like the nightlight in my bathroom), outsider art - especially Southern African-American Folk Art, old maps and atlases (sp? atli?) and wacky clothes with a sense of humor and classic preppy style. Sometimes I'll do up a batch of notecards inspired by these vintage fabrics and clothes and hock them here in eBay.

Anyway, here's how I put Marimekko to work in my own kitchen - I hung a UNIKKO tablecloth as a wall hanging, laid a black and white checkerboard floor, and painted the countertops shocking lime green with black trim. A friend made the amazing quilted bird pillows for me out of some fabulous '60's fabric of her mother's for my birthday. Somehow, it all works (or at least I like to think so - I have a sofa instead of a kitchen table because I never cook anything you can't eat while sitting on the sofa):

By the way, while I'm a Michael Graves fan, that stuff he did for Target looks good but does not work at all. That scale on the floor was never right, and my can opener never worked either. Form - check; Function - not so much!

Oh, and I love Oliver's Folk Art - it's an eBay store. He has great pieces, some by one of my favorites, Missionary Mary Proctor. Here is a picture of Mary and yours truly in Atlanta last summer. I bought 8 pieces from her; they were total steals. This summer I had the pleasure of meeting self-taught artist Chris Clark - he did the three pieces next to my kitchen window.

PAYMENT/RETURNS: I can't afford to keep my prices low and accept returns, but of course I will accept a return if I have made a mistake in a listing. Yup, it's been known to happen, and I am very embarrassed when it does and will do my best to make up for it. If you are heartbroken over something not fitting, email me, and I'll probably refund you minus shipping and a $5 relisting fee.

FEEDBACK: I love leaving positive feedback - I will leave positive feedback as soon as I can after I receive payment - I don't wait around for you to leave it for me first. I loathe leaving negative feedback. I abhor filing Non-Paying Bidder reports. However, if someone does not communicate with me, I have to do it, and I will, so if you can't pay within seven days, drop me a line and let me know what's going on so that we can try to work it out - I'm pretty patient about these things.

SHIPPING: I prefer to use USPS Priority Mail. It is reasonably priced and the supplies and delivery confirmation are free. If you've bought something really small and light (like a silk scarf, for instance) and want to try for first class mail, ask me and I'll give you a first-class rate option. If something does not show up within a few days, PLEASE let me know - there's a 99% chance your postman forgot to leave you a slip and it is sitting at your local P.O. waiting for you to pick it up. I tend to insure everything that costs over $150, generally speaking.

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS I try to use Global Express Mail whenever possible, as it is quick, insurable, and trackable. If you want Global Priority Mail, that's fine, but the insurance risks are all on you. I'll try my best to squeeze something into the Global Priority flat rate envelope ($8 for Canada, $10 everywhere else) if that is what you want me to do. I don't believe in tacking on a bunch of "handling charges," and price shipping accordingly. If you notice a glaring difference, please let me know.
