The Beguiling Founded in 1987, The Beguiling has set a new standard in Canada for retailing comics and related culture. Showcasing the largest selection of alternative, underground and avant-garde graphic story telling in the country, The Beguiling has a worldwide reputation. Among the many accolades afforded the store in its 12-year history was the first Eisner award for excellence in retailing. The Beguiling has also sponsored many book signings, conventions and poetry/prose readings with legendary and current stars such as Robert Crumb, Harlan Ellison, Neil Gaiman, and others. The store also supports the efforts of Canadian cartoonists, authors and publishers. It is the shop of choice for Toronto comic book creators, such as Seth, Chester Brown, Joe Matt, Jay Stephens and many others. Much of the store international reputation is due to endorsements from the various cartoonists who have visited over the years, and mentioned it in interviews or in their comic books. The store also acts as an art agent, representing the works of dozens of acclaimed cartoonists, including the afformentioned Seth, Brown, Matt, and Stephens, as well as notables Paul Pope, Phoebe Gloeckner, Jason Lutes, Brian Ralph, James Sturm, Dave Cooper, Jason, Adrian Tomine, and many many more.
Begining March 31st, 2003, The Beguiling will begin it's one-of-a-kind art auction of three covers for Dave Sim and Gerhard's CEREBUS. The Covers to issues 74, 75, and 76 of CEREBUS (the "Grail" storyline) have been framed and will be made available for auction. This will be the very pinnacle of CEREBUS art or memorabillia to be made available to the public for quite some time to come.
