About the Artist
| I have been drawing and painting since I was a young child. I don't come from a family of artists, so I like to think that it was a special gift that was bestowed upon me. I graduated from Boston University's College of Fine Arts in 1993 with a degree in painting, and a minor in art history. B.U. has a very intense, traditional fine arts program...it was 4 years of figure drawing, figure painting and more figure painting. There, I studied with renowned painters John Moore and Joseph Ablow, among others. Mr. Ablow was a student of German Expressionist, Oskar Kokoschka. I loved every minute of my time at B.U. and will cherish it always! |

One of my all-time favorite artists is Fairfield Porter, who was a great painter of color, light and "air". I am obsessed with his work and am the first one in line when there is an exhibit of his in New England! I also look to the Fauve and Expressionist painters, particularly the Bay Area movement, for inspiration. Watching my young son with a paintbrush reminds me not to overthink my work and to let it flow without inhibition.
My work seems to be heading in the direction of an expressionist and I discover something new about it every day. I love to use bold color and draw into my paintings with charcoal. I also like to exaggerate drawings and play with perspective. Living in Maine is an inspiration, with its beautiful landscape and rich artistic history. Everyone should visit Maine, especially Monhegan Island, at least once in their lifetime! I am so lucky to live here and be able to pursue my art career...it is what I've always wanted.
